In 2018’s Doctor Strange: Damnation #3, by Donny Cates, Nick Spencer and Szymon Kudranski, Wong assembled a new version of the Midnight Sons to fight the Avengers, who had all been transformed into Spirits of Vengeance. During the battle, Moon Knight lifted Thor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir, but only because the Goddess of Thunder had called the magic weapon back to her. Still, there was some debate as to whether Moon Knight worthy.

Now, Cates has now officially put the matter to bed by offering a definitive answer: no, Moon Knight was not able to lift Mjolnir.

"Lots of misunderstanding about this scene. Which is my fault as the writer," Cates wrote, taking the blame for the confusion. "But no, Moon Knight is NOT worthy in this panel. Mjolnir was already lifting in preparation to fly back to Thor. He just happens to be grabbing it as it lifted. Sorry!"

It’s well-known that Thor’s hammer has a magical enchantment that allows only the worthy to wield it. Most notably, Captain America has been able to lift the hammer, as have Jane Foster and Beta Ray Bill. However, in the most recent issue of Thor, by Cates and Nic Klein, Loki was mysteriously able to lift Mjolnir as well.

Thor #4, by Donny Cates and Nic Klein, is now on sale from Marvel.
