Marvel Entertainment announced a new partnership with acclaimed audiobook and e-book platform Serial Box, with a wave of original stories launching this December with Thor: Metal Gods.

The all-new, original story has Thor and Loki team up to meet with the Korean deity Horangi and a space pirate named Captain Zia, who has a shared history with the Asgardian God of Mischief. As the brothers venture into outer space, they discover an ancient threat while confronting their own past sins.

Written by a team led by screenwriter Aaron Stewart-Ahn (Mandy), and including Brian Keene, Jay Eddin and Yoon Ha Lee, the title is the first in a wave of original Marvel stories appearing on Serial Box, with later titles starring Black Panther, Black Widow and Jessica Jones expected to debut in 2020.

"The story of Thor is staggeringly epic -- from Asgardian myth to intergalactic quests, to the (sometimes surprising, often hilarious) depth of his relationships -- he’s got it all," observed Serial Box Head of Content Hayley Wagreich in a written statement. "What makes this story truly exciting to us as we kick off our collaboration with Marvel is how grounded his story is in real issues of identity, humanity and what it means to be a hero. We can’t wait to bring Metal Gods to Thor fans across the globe.”

Thor: Metal Gods will be available on mobile devices through Serial Box starting on December 12.
