For years now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has told the vast and entertaining story of Thor Odinson, the Norse God of Thunder. The strongest Avenger has been through numerous trials throughout three solo movies and four Avengers-level big-screen team-ups. Through it all, fans have learned about the many facets that make up the comic book-based hero, including his family, his relationships, his cosmic godly power, and most of all, his worthiness.

After much wondering and speculation about what will be next for Thor, fans finally have trailers for the new movie Thor: Love and Thunder. Here is everything one needs to know about the upcoming film.

Does Thor: Love and Thunder Have a Trailer?

After much anticipation, Marvel Studios released the Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer on April 18, just 81 days before its theatrical release.

As we grow closer to the release date for Thor: Love and Thunder, a follow-up trailer was released showing more of the anticipated Marvel film. Filled with bright colors and a fun atmosphere, the recent trailer gave fans the first looks at the performances of Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher and Natalie Portman's Jane Foster/Thor. The characters' involvement in the film's story comes more into focus as it seems the broken relationship between Thor and Jane will be at the forefront. The two Thors, along with Valkyrie and Korg, seem to be traveling from New Asgard to the cosmos with a Bifrost-powered, goat-led Viking ship.

Gorr and his primary weapon, the Necrosword, are also prominently on display with a fairly simple plan: kill all gods. While previous trailers showed Thor as being listless, this trailer features many battle scenes Thor will be a part of, including one where the reforged Mjolnir rejects him. From Korg telling children the story of "the space Viking" to Thor's tattoo of Loki's helmet, Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to be another exciting addition to the Thor films and the MCU as a whole.

Thor's Story So Far

Thor Ragnarok

The Thor movies tell the story of the titular god as he makes his way through life, one adventure after another. Traversing Midgard without his godly powers, defending the entirety of the nine realms from invaders, and fighting his sister for the right to rule Asgard are just some of the large-scale battles that Thor has had to push through to become the man he is today. Within all the nine realms, Thor has fought for peace, love, and sometimes just for fun. And from the looks of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, the wild fun is not over just yet.

Audiences last saw Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame. He had decided to leave the leadership of New Asgard in the capable hands of Valkyrie, a powerful ally looking for redemption in her own right. With this decision, he also chose to leave Earth to traverse the cosmos with the Guardians of the Galaxy, leaving fans incredibly excited and giving them the combined moniker: The Asgardians of the Galaxy.

The Story Yet to Come in Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor Star-Lord Love and Thunder

The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer shows our hero attempting to find himself as someone who has the choice to put down his hammer and stop fighting. After the monumental threat that was Thanos, Thor seems to be a bit aimless and is looking for a purpose beyond war. He is seen hanging out with the Guardians of the Galaxy still and getting some sage advice from Chris Pratt's Star-Lord. However, when the team starts running into battle, Thor chooses to walk the other way.

As Thor discovers himself, it is shown that he will seek out and interact with more gods and different pantheons. In particular, the teaser trailer showed the Greek pantheon, with the lightning-wielding Zeus, played by Russel Crow, at the head being cheered and praised.

Apart from Thor, the trailer shows Valkyrie in New Asgard potentially feeling the pressure of being a ruler. Valkyrie was a warrior for Asgard, then a hunter while on Sakaar. Now, it looks like she, like Thor, is on a journey to find her place as a leader on Earth. So far, not much has been revealed about the villain for Thor: Love and Thunder, but it has been confirmed that it will be the character Gorr the God Butcher, a powerful alien who hates and kills gods in the comics.

Another comic book character being brought to the big screen is the long-awaited reveal of Jane Foster as Thor, Goddess of Thunder. For about nine years, comic book fans have been engrossed in Jane's story as the Mighty Thor. And now, her story will be retold for audiences everywhere to enjoy, as the MCU Jane has a reforged Mjolnir from the one that Hela destroyed in the previous movie, Thor Ragnarok.
