Following a report about the next Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, Marvel Studios provided official confirmation that it will indeed arrive far sooner than many fans may have previously expected.Earlier reports had stated that the trailer was coming sooner than Thor fans were expecting, and Marvel Studios confirmed it with a fun clip featuring stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. They announced the trailer will be released Monday, May 23, during Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, also marks Natalie Portman's return to her role of Jane Foster, as well as her first appearance wielding the power of Thor for herself. Director Taika Waititi previously gave fans an idea of what to expect regarding the pair's on-screen romance, saying, "I can’t promise that what people think is going to happen in this film will happen." He elaborated, "On paper, it feels kinds of cringy to me, but there’s a way of doing it with cool characters making a cool movie, and also having a thing that no fan ever wants in a superhero movie, which is people talking about love, and characters kissing."
The film will also see the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Christian Bale as deicidal antagonist Gorr the God Butcher, as well as Russell Crowe's Zeus. Both actors and their portrayals of their respective roles have received no small amount of praise from the director.
Waititi previously described Bale's Gorr as "Probably one of the best villains that's Marvel's had in their films." He also remarked on Crowe's Zeus, saying, "I consider Russell a friend, and I forget that there are some friends I have who are really incredible at what they do. When I was on set with Russell, I was like, 'Oh shit, that's right! You're Russell Crowe! You're a really amazing actor!"
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8.
