Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi recently posted a photo of him and actor Idris Elba visiting the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team.

Waititi is currently filming the fourth Thor movie. Elba, who first portrayed guardian sentry Heimdall in Thor, has reprised this role in Thor: Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. His appearance with Waititi could be a tease for another reprisal in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. "Me and [Idris Elba] visited the [All Blacks] last week and I think we can all agree that’s what inspired last night’s win," Waititi wrote.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Heimdall was slaughtered in the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War and used his dying breath to send Hulk back to Earth to warn the Avengers about Thanos’ quest for the Infinity Stones. However, in the MCU, death is not always the end.

So far, very little has been revealed regarding details about the upcoming Thor sequel, which will see the return of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who already confirmed the film will see Jane’s transformation into a superhero with Jane taking on the mantle of The Mighty Thor.

Along with a possible Elba-return, there has been speculation about other possible characters coming back to the screen, including Jane's best friend, Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) who appeared in the early Thor films.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the film has been described as "Avengers 5" due to the huge ensemble cast. Confirmed cast members include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star Lord and Christian Bale as the yet unnamed villain.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to premiere in 2022 and will begin shooting in Australia come January. The sequel is part of the MCU’s Phase 4, which will be a mix of television and movies, and will begin in January with WandaVision (set to premiere on Disney+). Black Widow will be the first film in the Phase 4 lineup, followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the ensemble film The Eternals, an untitled Spider-Man film, Thor: Love and Thunder and concluding with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Christian Bale in an unconfirmed role. The film arrives in theaters Feb. 11, 2022.
