Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and Chris Hemsworth's Thor have always had a somewhat contentious relationship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Pratt says the pair's dynamic in the forthcoming Thor: Love and Thunder has changed since the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

"It was a fun thing when we did it with the Russo brothers directing us in Endgame," Pratt said at the upcoming film's world premiere. "At the end of that I thought it was a lot of fun and [director Taika Waititi] takes it really in its own direction here in Love and Thunder."

Quill and Thor's relationship began in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, when Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill, and the Guardians of the Galaxy came across the unconscious Thor drifting through space after Thanos and his band's destruction of the Asgardian refugees' spacecraft. After the Guardians rescue the Asgardian and he regains consciousness, Quill feels his own command, and masculinity, are threatened by Thor's swagger and confidence, and stands up to the Thunder God in his own comedic way, putting the two at tense albeit friendly testosterone-fueled odds.

Quill has endured no shortage of life tragedies since that time, however. His lover Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos – her adoptive father – in his quest to obtain the Infinity Stones in Infinity War. And Quill himself was subsequently erased from existence for five years by way of Thanos' genocidal Infinity Stones-powered finger snap. One of Love and Thunder's recent trailers shows a seemingly more serious and mature Peter Quill, a change that stands to reshape the dynamic between Quill and the God of Thunder.

Thor himself went through his own emotional crisis and life journey in the wake of Infinity War, after nearly stopping, but ultimately failing, to stop Thanos' quest. In Endgame, Thor has become resultingly despondent, burying himself in a binge of food and alcohol while attempting to cope with his perceived failure. When the Avengers' time-traveling hijinks succeed in restoring those wiped from existence and subsequently defeating Thanos for good, Thor joins up with Quill and the other Guardians, who are featured in Love and Thunder.

"I'm very curious myself to see what's assembled," Pratt added, "Because obviously we know what we did, but you know how Marvel {Studios] is -- they won't even let us know what's going on."

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters July 8.
