It may surprise some fans to know that Taika Waititi, writer-director of Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder, has already completed the film's script and production is set to begin in early 2020.
Taika Waititi's followup to 2017's Thor: Ragnarok was announced at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego. It will feature much of the same cast as its predecessor, with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster returning as a new Thor.
Before Thor, Waititi will co-write and direct a Fox Searchlight film called Next Goal Wins, an adaptation of a 2014 British soccer documentary of the same name. Garrett Basch, Mike Brett, Steve Jamison and Andy Serkis will serve as the film's producers, with Iain Morris co-writing the script. Mike Brett and Steve Jamison directed the original documentary.
Waititi's next film to be released in theaters will be Fox Searchlight's Jojo Rabbit, a dark comedy set during World War II. Jojo Rabbit follows a German boy whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler (Waititi). The film is set to release on October 18 and also stars Roman Griffin Davis, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Stephen Merchant, Rebel Wilson and more.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder starring Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth arrives in theaters November 5, 2021.
