The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor wields a certain other mythological god's weapon of choice in a new promo for the fast-approaching film Thor: Love and Thunder.

The promo, titled "Army," features multiple shots of Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) brandishing Zeus' lightning bolt, at one point even using it to battle the villainous Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). The rest of the teaser focuses on Thor's efforts to raise an army to challenge Gorr, the latter of whom seeks to rid the universe of all gods.

Marvel Comics' version of the mythological Greek god Zeus was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Venus #5, cover-dated June 1949. Fans caught their first glimpse of the MCU's Zeus in the first teaser trailer for Love and Thunder, in which the Olympian could be seen holding his signature lightning bolt aloft.

The film's first full-length trailer made it clear that Zeus is being played by none other than Russell Crowe. Moreover, Thor won't be the only Asgardian to wield Zeus' lightning bolt in Love and Thunder, as that same trailer also shows King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) similarly taking the electric weapon into battle against Gorr.

The God of Thunder's Arsenal Is Growing

Thor himself, of course, is certainly no stranger to wielding various, electrically-charged weapons. For much of his time in the MCU, the God of Thunder has done battle with his trusty hammer, Mjolnir. However, after Mjolnir was destroyed by Hela (Cate Blanchett) in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, Thor received a new weapon, Stormbreaker, in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. Love and Thunder finds Mjolnir reforged -- only the hammer has a new wielder in the form of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Thor's ex-girlfriend.

Set to hit theaters this coming Friday, July 8, Love and Thunder sees Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi return to the director's chair. "Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder finds the God of Thunder on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced -- a quest for inner peace," the film's official synopsis reads. "But Thor's retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg (Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who -- to Thor's surprise -- inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it's too late."
