The MCU's fourth phase is now well underway with movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and director Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now popular director Taika Waititi has contributed Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth standalone Thor movie. With a villain like Gorr the God Butcher, there are naturally plenty of deities involved, too.

While the MCU has featured or at least mentioned gods before, mainly the Asgardians, no other Marvel movie focused on the gods the same way as Thor: Love and Thunder does. In this movie, many gods make a full appearance or appear briefly in flashbacks and cameos. Gods are among the most powerful beings in the MCU, and many of them behave based on self-importance and a sense of grandeur. Still, not all are that way; some are certainly more pompous than others.

Spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder ahead!

10 Falligar The Behemoth Was Evidently Very Kind

Thor Love and Thunder Falligar

Some of the gods who appeared in Love and Thunder didn't actually say or do much of anything, so it's not always easy to tell what their personalities are like. Based on Thor's dialogue, viewers can get an idea of what the massive god named Falligar the Behemoth had been like in life.

According to Thor, Falligar had been a kind, humble, and easygoing deity who was not pompous or self-important at all. He was a down-to-earth god, and that's why Thor believed that Falligar, especially, didn't deserve to die at Gorr's hands.

9 Lady Sif Is Brave But Not Very Pompous

Lady Sif walks through the battlefield in Thor: The Dark World

Sif is an Asgardian deity, though it is not always clear what she is the god of. What's most important is that Sif is one of Thor's most loyal and courageous companions, and she is pretty down-to-earth, just like Falligar. She takes herself seriously as a warrior, but not excessively so.

Overall, Sif is one of the least pompous gods who appears in Thor: Love and Thunder in any capacity, and even though she suffered defeat and was ready to go on to Valhalla, she later agreed to get healed in New Asgard. Sif isn't ready to die gloriously in battle, and she can accept that fact.

8 Heimdall Is Dutiful But Not Pompous

Heimdall without his helmet in the MCU

Heimdall was one of the most important Asgardianas in his time, being the one responsible for managing the Bifrost and thus acting as Asgard's best security guard. He died around the time 2018's The Avengers: Infinity War took place, but he managed to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder as well.

Heimdall's brief appearance was when he welcomed the recently deceased Dr. Jane Foster to Valhalla, the land of eternal rest for brave warriors. Heimdall acted in a dignified and polite manner, but he was not arrogant or pompous by any means. That's not how he operates.

7 Astrid Heimdallson/Axl Wants A Cool Nickname

Heimdall's son Astrid aka Axl.

Heimdall had a son named Astrid, and Astrid is now one of the most notable residents of New Asgard. He is a god, though he doesn't often mention it. Instead, like many youths in the MCU, he's more interested in pop culture and figuring out his own identity.

To that point, Astrid showed a gently pompous side by grandly declaring himself Axl, after the Guns N' Roses lead singer of the same name. Axl is getting a little ahead of himself there, but the boy shows promise, and he fights bravely by Thor's side in the final battle against Gorr the God Butcher.

6 Frigga Is Quite Dignified, Even In Flashbacks

MCU Frigga In Thor.

Thor's beloved mother Frigga appeared in flashbacks in Thor: Love and Thunder, and she was definitely one of the best MCU moms out there. Tragically, she died in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, but her memory lives on in her son Thor. He has plenty of wonderful things to remember her by.

In life, Frigga had been a dignified and confident queen, and while she wasn't arrogant, she was a bit pompous, never cracking jokes or acting too casually. She had an image to maintain, so she made sure to let everyone know what a real queen looks like.

5 Valkyrie Also Has An Image To Maintain

Valkyrie leading diplomatic meetings in Thor: Love and Thunder while looking bored

Thor's good friend and vital ally Valkyrie made her first appearance in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok as a bitter loner of a warrior who had lost her purpose in life. Now Valkyrie is the bold leader of New Asgard, and like Frigga before her, Valkyrie has an image to maintain.

Valkyrie acts a tad pompous, but no more than her station calls for, which is thoughtful of her. The Asgardians woud panic if they came under attack, only for their leader to be a goofball who won't take anything seriously. They need a confident god to lead the way.

4 Hercules Clearly Inherited His Father's Pompous Confidence

Marvel comics Hercules.

The brawny demigod Hercules only appeared briefly in a post-credits scene in Thor: Love and Thunder, but that was all fans needed to get an idea of what he is like. Hercules is a son of Zeus, and it was obvious that Hercules inherited a great deal of his powerful father's extreme pomp.

Hercules has yet to prove his worth in the MCU, but most likely, he will soon back up his pompous ways with awesome displays of power. Based on other lore, Marvel and otherwise, Hercules will soon dominate the scene as a mighty warrior, the kind who can kill invincible lions and wear their pelts as a cape.

3 Thor Odinson Likes To Make A Strong Impression

Thor looks behind him

At times, the mighty Avenger Thor is rather humble and even self-deprecating, but most other times, he's quite pompous as the famed prince of Asgard. Thor often shows off with his cool costumes, flashy displays of his hammer Mjolnir, and his dramatic speech.

In general, Thor likes to dominate the scene anytime he appears, and he won't easily tolerate mockery or jokes at his expense. He expects everyone to take him seriously and look up to him as a great hero, and fortunately, he can live up to everyone's lofty expectations of him. He may be a tad arrogant about it, though.

2 Gorr's God, Rapu, Was Deeply Conceited & Pompous

Gorr Takes Up The Necrosword In Thor Love And Thunder

In the first scene of Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr's reason for killing gods became horribly clear. As a mortal dying of thirst and hunger, he finally met his beloved deity Rapu and begged him for help, only to realize that Rapu is a pompous, selfish deity who cares nothing for his mortal worshipers.

Little else is known of Rapu, but his attitude and dialogue made his sickeningly pompous nature clear. Not only was Rapu self-centered and conceited, he cruelly mocked his devout follower Gorr and trivialized the value of mortal lives. No wonder Gorr slew him with the Necrosword.

1 Zeus Makes Everything About Him

Zeus Flicks Thor's Disguise Off In Thor Love And Thunder

The Greek storm god Zeus made his flashy debut in Thor: Love and Thunder, and he made a strong impression there in Omnipotence City. Zeus is powerful and famous, and he revels in it. Zeus will take any chance to show off in Omnipotence City and stroke his ego even more.

Zeus acts grandly to live up to his reputation, and that makes him hugely pompous as a deity. Zeus will talk down to absolutely anyone who questions or defies him, and that caused trouble when Thor implored him for help against Gorr.
