A recent promo for Love and Thunder, titled "When Love Meets Thunder," previewed some off-camera action similar to what fans will likely get to see in the new documentary. The video showed Waititi and Thor actor Chris Hemsworth play-fighting, as well as providing a clip of Hemsworth saying that the director is "Like a big kid," adding, "He's like sort of a genius child."

A Thundering Success

In addition to the new documentary, Love and Thunder is also arriving on home video. The film hit digital on Sept. 8, and is set to come out on Blu-ray on Sept. 27. This release will feature deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a commentary track from Waititi. The film also hit Disney+ on Sept. 8.

Love and Thunder soared at the box office, performing even better than its predecessor, Thor: Ragnarok. The film brought in $316 million domestically on its opening weekend, against Ragnarok's $315 million. Love and Thunder currently has grossed over $853.9 million in total.

While there are no reports that he is directing another Thor film in the foreseeable future, Waititi is continuing his blockbuster run with a new Star Wars project. Waititi noted that his as-yet untitled installment in the franchise is intended to expand the universe, explaining, "I don't think that I'm any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone's like, 'Oh great, well that's the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah, that's Chewbacca's grandmother.' That all stands alone, that's great, though I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it's a very small story."

Details about Waitit's film are scarce, but an inside report suggested that it might be coming as soon as early 2023.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently in theaters and available to stream on Disney+.
