Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale revealed what it was like for him to act in front of a green screen for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

In an interview with GQ, Bale was asked about his experience with green-screen acting for the fourth Thor film. "That's the first time I've done that. I mean, the definition of it is monotony," Bale said. "You've got good people. You've got other actors who are far more experienced at it than me. Can you differentiate one day from the next? No. Absolutely not. You have no idea what to do."

Bale continued, "I couldn't even differentiate one stage from the next... They kept saying, 'You're on Stage Three.' Well, it's like, 'Which one is that?' 'The blue one.' They're like, 'Yeah. But you're on Stage Seven.' 'Which one is that?' 'The blue one.' I was like, 'Uh, where?'"

Love and Thunder was the first MCU project to make use of The Volume, a revolutionary creation for VFX technology that all but eliminates the need for green screens. Created for The Mandalorian by Industrial Light & Magic, The Volume is a large soundstage made up of several large LED video walls capable of displaying computer-generated environments in real-time. This technology will also be used for Marvel Studios' upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The actor may find himself on a Volume soundstage once again should he get his way, as Bale recently revealed his desire to appear in the Star Wars universe. "What a delight that would be... I also know [Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy] very well because she was working with [Steven] Spielberg when I did Empire of the Sun, and now, she runs the Star Wars universe." While The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi all made use of the Volume technology, Disney+'s Andor has broken this tradition by instead opting to film on location.

Most known for his lead role in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Bale has starred in several critically-acclaimed films over the years since his debut in 1987. Bale recently credited his success to actor Leonardo DiCaprio, as Bale said he only got most of his major roles because DiCaprio first passed on them.

Bale was singled out for his performance as the villain Thor: Love and Thunder, though the rest of the film recieved a mixed response upon release. Despite the reviews, the MCU film was financial success, grossing $760 million worldwide against a budget of $250 million.
