A new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally gave Marvel Cinematic Universe followers their first look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher but it didn't take long for fans to compare him to Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort.

The comparisons started as many pointed out that Gorr and Voldemort both have a pale complexion and bald heads. However, many fans on Twitter agreed that Gorr is the "hotter" of the two and joked that the live-action version of the iconic Thor villain managed to gain a nose, unlike Voldemort. Another similarity some have noted is that both are played by acclaimed British actors Bale and Ralph Fiennes, respectively.

Gorr made his first appearance in Thor: God of Thunder #2 in 2012. In the comics, Gorr suffered a harsh childhood that left him on the brink of starvation and death. As an adult, his wife and children all perished, leaving Gorr in despair and anger at the unfairness of the universe. With his faith shaken, he was banished from his people and forced into the desert. It was during his wanderings that the villain met a dueling pair of gods and was asked for help by one of them. Instead of offering assistance, Gorr killed him using All-Black the Necrosword, a weapon that gave him the power needed to seek vengeance against the gods that he felt had abandoned him.

The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer confirms that the live-action adaptation of Gorr will also be seeking to murder gods, but whether the rest of his comic backstory will be adapted remains to be seen. According to director Taika Waititi, one thing fans can look forward to is Bale's performance as Gorr, which he describes as "very formidable." Waititi called the character "very layered" and praised the villain as one of the MCU's best evil-doers. "I think personally, he's probably one of the best villains that Marvel's had in their films," Waititi said.

As well as giving fans a first look at Gorr, the newest trailer also debuted Russell Crowe as Zeus in a humorous scene with Chris Hemsworth's Thor. Fans of the titular Odinson were also treated to a brand new theatrical poster for Love and Thunder which featured Thor and Jane Foster front and center, while Gorr looms ominously in the background.

To see Christian Bale as Gorr, fans can catch Thor: Love and Thunder in theaters when it premiers on July 9.
