WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Thor #12, by Donny Cates, Nic Klein, Matt Wilson and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

For the past few months, Thor's deranged human alter-ego, Donald Blake, has steadily hunted down anyone who has wielded the Odinforce, the mythical powers granted directly by the Asgardian All-Father, as part of his bloody vendetta against his creator. From the Odinson to Beta Ray Bill to lesser-known Gods of Thunder like Red Norvell, many Asgardian heroe shave found themselves victims of the unhinged Blake.

And in the aftermath of Blake's battle against the amphibian God of Thunder Throg, Thor #12 sees an iconic superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe quickly learn that they are completely outmatched by Thor's shadow brought vengefully to life: Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange Evil Donald Blake

As Blake's twisted hunt brought him on a collision course with Throg, the formerly good-hearted physician found himself outmaneuvered by the Pet Avenger and his longtime friend and ally, Lockjaw of the Inhumans. Blake even went as far as to swallow Throg whole to gain his piece of the Odinforce, whihc wound up horrifically backfiring on Blake asthe amphibian superhero burst free from the doctor's mouth with a knockout blow. By deciding to call in for reinforcements to examine what exactly had gone wrong with Blake since their last meeting, Throg and Lockjaw inadvertently played right into Blake's fiendish hands by taking him to see Doctor Strange in his usual base of operations inside Greenwich Village's Sanctum Sanctorum.

Prior to writing Thor, Donny Cates teamed up with Gabriel Walta and Niko Henrichon for a run on Doctor Strange. The run began with Loki ascending to the rank of Sorcerer Supreme while Strange worked as an unassuming veterinarian before deciding to reclaim his magical mantle from the God of Mischief. In order to obtain the power necessary to usurp Loki and retake his position as the Master of the Mystic Arts, Strange stole a portion of the Odinforce directly from Yggdrasil, the World Tree growing up in the heart of Asgard and connecting all Ten Realms together through its cosmic branches while its seeds are capable of growing entire universes.

Asgardian Doctor Strange Loki

While Strange seemingly surrendered the Odinforce once he had reclaimed the Sorcerer Supreme position from Loki, the residual elements of the energy within him effectively placed him on Donald Blake's hit list. Once brought inside the Sanctum Sanctorum, Blake quickly dispatched Throg and Lockjaw before turning his full attention to Doctor Strange. Setting the Sanctum Sanctorum ablaze, Blake decides to spare Strange after learning from the Master of the Mystic Arts what exactly the true source of the Odinforce is: The World Tree itself. Leaving the bloodied and battered Strange alongside the defeated Throg and Lockjaw, Blake summons the Bifrost to return to Asgard in a flash.

Doctor Strange has certainly faced his fair share of threats borne of Asgard and its accompanying realms, with Loki perhaps being the most noteworthy of them all. But like all who have taken on the newly villainous Donald Blake, even the Sorcerer Supreme is no match for the unhinged persona gone bad. With everyone laid out by Blake and Thor still imprisoned within a pocket universe, Blake seems truly unstoppable as he targets the World Tree as the culmination of his bloody revenge. And with the Sanctum Sanctorum in flames, the damage Blake may have just incurred on the nexus of the Marvel Universe's magic could be catastrophic in and of itself.
