WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Captain Marvel #26 by Kelly Thompson, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, and VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

In Captain Marvel's latest storyline, "The New World," Carol Danvers was taken to the year 2052, in a future first introduced in Captain Marvel: The End. While she found a world that was mostly destroyed, she also met the sons and daughters of multiple Marvel heroes, from Gerry Drew and Katie Barton to Brigid, the Asgardian daughter of Thor. Each of these characters participated in the fight against Ove, the son of Namor the Sub-Mariner and Enchantress. However, Brigid quickly stood apart thanks to her strong characterization and the crucial role she played in the confrontation.

Now, with Captain Marvel #26, Carol bids farewell to the new friends she made in this dystopian future and she returns home, to the present of the Marvel Universe. But as the prospect of never returning to this future timeline settles in, one thing becomes all too clear: Marvel needs to give Brigid her own spinoff series and bring her into the main Marvel timeline.

Brigid was introduced in Captain Marvel #23 as part of a group of survivors lead by Emma Frost and Spider-Woman. The identity of her mother was not revealed, but it was clear she took after her father: she was big and strong with blonde hair, she was brave and a warrior through and through, and she had an affinity for hammers. However, despite her heritage, Brigid had yet to prove herself worthy of lifting Mjolnir. Thankfully, her courage in battle against Ove and his monstrous forces finally helped her achieve what she never could before: upon her call, the mighty hammer finally came to her, and she was transformed into the new Goddess of Thunder.

In Captain Marvel #26, after giving Carol an electric new power boost, Brigid fights alongside the rest of her friends to stop Ove. Unfortunately, the villain achieves his goal, and he is able to transport himself back to the past of the Marvel Universe -- and Carol's present day. With the villain now a menace in the main timeline, Carol heads back home, where she will continue the fight against Ove.

Thanks to a spell performed by his Asgardian mother, Ove was able to invade the present day, officially crossing over to the main Marvel Universe. For now, he is the only character from the year 2052 who has made this jump -- but he shouldn't be the last.

Brigid may have only appeared in four issues so far, but the character has already become a standout new addition to Marvel's roster of superheroes. The character is fascinating, and she already has the perfect costume. Now that she has become the new Goddess of Thunder, we need to see where the character will go next. A spinoff series starring Brigid could further flesh out the future of the year 2052, sure, but it would be even more exciting to see her join the main Marvel Universe.

Since she has access to Asgardian magic, Brigid could find the means to travel back in time to the present, just like Ove. Then, she could have the chance to meet her father, and fight beside him. She could become a new addition to the Asgardian mythos, and she could even join a team of heroes like the Champions or the Guardians of the Galaxy. Besides, there is still the lingering mystery of Brigid's mother that needs to be addressed, something that could easily lead to plenty of intrigue and surprise. There is simply too much potential for Brigid to remain in a future timeline we may never revisit. With Ove bound to become an even bigger problem in the Marvel Universe, we hopefully will see the return of Brigid -- and then, she will be able to soar in the main Marvel Universe.
