Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson offered some new insight into Valkyrie's power set.
"She has weird skills, to be honest," Thompson told W Magazine. "She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It's a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God."
While Valkyrie has yet to display some of these powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most of them do line up with her comic book counterpart. The notable exception is the ability to revive others and inhabit their bodies, which doesn't appear to be something the character has done in previous depictions.
Valkyrie is one of several characters returning for Love and Thunder, along with Jane Foster, Lady Sif, Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis, Nebula, Kraglin, Groot, the Grandmaster and, of course, Thor himself. In fact, Chris Hemsworth recently expressed his desire to keep playing the God of Thunder beyond his upcoming fourth solo film. "As long as they'll have me, I'll turn up, but I feel like they might be waning that kind of enthusiasm," he explained.
Though Hemsworth is eager for more Marvel Studios projects, it's still unclear what the future of the Thor franchise will look like after Love and Thunder, which sees Natalie Portman's Jane Foster become the new Mighty Thor. "It was really fun," Portman explained while discussing bulking up for the role. "I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was, four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes—heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before. Of course, I’ve never really aimed to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of both agility work and also strength work."
Thor: Love and Thunder storms its way into theaters July 8.
