Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, which featured one of the most comics-accurate shots to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shown briefly in the teaser trailer, the shot depicts Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Taika Waititi's Korg standing atop a rock overlooking the corpse of a god who, in the comics, was identified as Falligar the Behemoth and died at the hands of Gorr the God Butcher. While Thor is alone in the comics, the shot from the trailer is an almost exact recreation of a panel that appeared in Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1 #3 as the third part of the God Butcher arc. Released in December 2012, the issue was written by Jason Aaron, drawn by Esad Ribić and colored by Ive Svorcina. RELATED: Thor 4 Finally Reveals a Clear Look at Christian Bale's Villainous Weapon

Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor for Love and Thunder, which will pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. According to the official synopsis, Love and Thunder will see Thor, joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), go up against the villainous Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.

Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for Love and Thunder after significant demand from fans, giving the film the shortest marketing window in the history of the MCU between the release of a first trailer and a film's release date. This was a record previously held by 2008's The Incredible Hulk, the first trailer for which was released 93 days before it premiered in theaters.

It was unclear for some time when the Love and Thunder teaser would release, especially after director Taika Waititi revealed as early as March 2022 that the film still wasn't finished. "It's still not finished," said Waititi. "It comes out in July, so probably the end of June [laughs]. Probably like a day before the premiere [laughs]. That's how we do it." Additionally, the film was reportedly conducting another round of reshoots just a few months before its scheduled theatrical debut, though this was not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.

Waititi has previously stated that Love and Thunder will not only be "crazier," but much more emotional than its previous film, Thor: Ragnarok. "It's crazier. I'll tell you what's different," he said. "There'll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you've seen the photos."

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8.
