Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed he believes the director's cuts "suck".

In an interview with NME, Waititi was asked what he thought of fans already clamoring for a director's cut of the newest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a petition circulating the internet imploring Disney to release his cut of the film, using the hashtag, #ReleasetheWaititiCut. Waititi responded, "I watch director’s cuts of a lot of other directors. They suck. Director’s cuts are not good."

He continued, "Directors need to be controlled sometimes and if I was to say, 'ah you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good, at four and a half hours. There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there, you don’t even have to pause it."

Waititi then stressed the importance of leaving certain bits and pieces of a film on the cutting room floor, stating that movie sequences are deleted for a reason. He used Thor: Love and Thunder as an example, explaining, "I'd say my cut would probably have a few more jokes in there... There might be a couple of deleted scenes but as I always say, a scene is deleted because it’s not good enough to be in the film. I think the deleted scenes section on the DVD, not that they use them anymore, should just be a list of the scenes and no links so you can’t click on them!"

Marking the 29th movie in the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder follows the titular Asgardian, played by Chris Hemsworth, continuing his adventures alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy in the aftermath of 2019's Avengers: Endgame. After a string of victories against relatively minor enemies, Thor's strength and skill are tested when a new threat arises. Gorr the Butcher, played by Christian Bale, comes out of the shadows, armed with a Necrosword, to defeat and kill all gods in existence.

Joining Hemsworth and Bale in Love and Thunder are actors Natalie Portman, returning as Jane Foster after several years; Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Waititi as Korg and, for a small appearance, Jaimie Alexander returning as Sif. These are on top of stars Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, who return as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder is in cinemas now.
