New set photos from Thor: Love and Thunder may offer insight into why Jane and the God of Thunder split up.Twitter user @NaberriePower shared a batch of photos in a thread featuring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman shooting a scene with director Taika Waititi. In the first set, they're sharing hot dogs on the street in front of what appears to be a jewelry store. Later in the thread, photos show the pair clearly admiring the rings in the window. The user also notes that the pair are wearing wigs reminiscent of Thor: The Dark World. That means this moment could be taking place following the events of that film but before the couple broke up, which happened sometime after the movie but before Avengers: Endgame.RELATED: Marvel Rejected Chris Hemsworth's First Thor Audition Tape

Though Jane was absent as early as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor talks about her as if they're still together, so it's still unknown when they parted ways. A separate set of photos show Thor looking at the rings alone, meaning the scene being shot could lead to the pair splitting up, possibly over an engagement discussion.

Little is known about the plot of Thor 4, but it will, of course, see the return of Jane Foster. Not only that, but she'll be picking up Mjolnir and becoming the Goddess of Thunder. But with her long absence from the MCU finally broken, it's not hard to imagine the film delving into where the good doctor has been all these years. These photos seem to indicate that it will take place during a flashback.

Thor and Jane won't be the only ones involved in the story, as Jamie Alexander's Lady Sif will also be back after her cameo on Loki. A number of the Guardians of the Galaxy will also play at least a small role in the film, likely wrapping up an adventure with Thor following the God of Thunder joining the crew in the final moments of Endgame. And Christian Bale will be playing the big bad, Gorr the God Butcher.

Waititi has said Thor 4 will be even more emotional and intense than Ragnarok, and the Marvel film will employ new technology to realize some of its more fantastical elements. All told, it seems the movie will deliver something truly spectacular while filling in some gaps in the existing Thor story.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters July 8, 2022.
