Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has debunked the authenticity of a supposed leaked poster for the upcoming Marvel Studios film.

The poster in question recently surfaced online after a fan snapped a photo of it in what appears to be one of the wall-mounted poster displays found in various retailers. The poster features key Love and Thunder characters Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi) and, of course, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who will take up the mantle of The Mighty Thor in the film.

Based on a recent tweet from Waititi himself, however, we can now safely say that while this poster may have found its way into stores, it isn't actually an official promotional item for Love and Thunder. "This is so bad that I kinda wish it was an official poster," Waititi wrote. "It's definitely what I would have done if I was in charge of posters."

That being said, it probably won't be too long before actual promotional material for Love and Thunder starts popping up, seeing as how the Thor sequel is currently slated to hit theaters in seven months' time.

The fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor series and the second to be directed by Waititi, Love and Thunder is slated for release on Friday, July 8, 2022. The film serves as a sequel to 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, though the characters of Thor, Valkyrie and Korg were most recently seen in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Jane Foster also appeared in Endgame, albeit via archive footage from 2013's Thor: The Dark World accompanied by new voiceover work from Portman.

As previously mentioned, Love and Thunder will center on Jane as she follows in the footsteps of her comic book counterpart and becomes the new wielder of Thor's power while also battling cancer. In addition to Portman, Hemsworth, Thompson and Waititi, the film marks the return of Thor franchise stars Jaimie Alexander and Jeff Goldblum as Sif and the Grandmaster, respectively. Meanwhile, Christian Bale is set to make his MCU debut in Love and Thunder as Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters on July 8, 2022.
