This reimagined 'Simpsons' opening is the stuff of nightmares

Resembling a long-lost VHS recording of Liquid Television, "Weird Simpsons" has oozed onto the Internet, giving us a glimpse of what the long-running animated series might've looked like ... had it been created in an alternate reality. One where everyone is too terrified to sleep.

Directed and animated by Yoann Hervo, it was part of a larger fan collaboration in which animators were asked to produce short stories, in their own style, set within the Simpsons universe. "Despite the fact that the project hasn't been achieved," Hervo explains, "I wanted to finish what I started."

The result, as you can see in the video below, is a (more) twisted vision of Springfield, where one resident has an unnerving obsession with Bart, music teacher Mr. Largo experiences a psychotic break, and Homer, like a cubed Cronus of myth, spits up his own son.

Yeah, sweet dreams ...
