Whilst the addition of island customization and the never-ending updates brought to Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings joy to many fans of the franchise, there are still elements of the previous games that are no longer present, or are severely lacking. Memorable characters, hilarious mottos and nifty tools and gear, all never to appear again in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

A large part of the Animal Crossing community is made up of young adults who previously enjoyed playing the older games, and therefore it is important to discuss the items, events, and locations that made the games as wonderful as they were! From the simply nostalgic, to genuinely essential elements of previous games, there are multiple things players miss from the older Animal Crossing games.

10 Mr. Resetti And His Monologues About Saving

Mr Resetti

Sonny Resetti, otherwise known as Mr. Resetti, is an angry mole who has made an appearance in every Animal Crossing game to date. Resetti acts as a rule enforcer in the earlier games, such as Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Resetti appears in front of the players' house when they do not save their game, and proceeds to lecture them on the importance of saving. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Resetti will even pretend to reset the game without saving, threatening that all of the players' progress will be lost to scare players into saving their game.

9 Old School Communication: The Bottle Mail

Bottle Mail, or Messages in a bottle, first appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World, and can sometimes appear on the beach in the game. The notes found in each bottle will be different every time, and these bottles can appear up to twice a day in-game.

Bottle mail could also be sent to friends if players used Tag Mode and had previously purchased their own bottle and paper from Tom Nooks store. If players sent  Bottle Mail to the person they were in Tag Mode with, it would later appear on that player's beach as Bottle Mail.

8 The Starry Skies And Constellations

Constellation AC

Constellations first appear in Animal Crossing: Wild World, and later also feature in Animal Crossing: City Folk. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, players can interact with the large telescope in the observatory. Whilst looking through the telescope, players can select stars and link them, creating constellations. As long as constellations remain at sixteen or fewer links, the possibilities are endless. Every constellation made in-game has a peak viewing time in the year, and this can change depending on where in the sky it is located. Constellations can be seen in the sky anytime between 6 PM and 6 AM, depending on the season and time of year.

7 The Weird And Wonderful Characters

Dr Shrunk AC

In Animal Crossing: New Horizon, some popular NPCs from previous games have not made an appearance. Dr. Shrunk, an axolotl who appears in Animal Crossing: Wild World and teaches the player reactions, no longer appears in-game. Instead, the players' villagers teach them. Joan, a boar who appears in the first Animal Crossing game and almost every game since, who sells turnips to players on Sundays, no longer appears in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Instead, the turnips are now sold by her granddaughter, Daisy Mae.

6 Main Street And The Shops (Shampoodle, Kicks, Post Office)

Main Street AC

Main Street is a shopping district in Animal Crossing: New Leaf that players can visit by crossing the railway track at the top of their town. Main Street contains multiple stores and facilities that players can upgrade by completing Mayor Duties in their town. Nookling Junction, a store run by Timmy and Tommy, sells items ranging from tools to furniture and can be upgraded by completing Mayor Duties. Main Street is also home to the Post Office, the Able Sisters, Nook's Homes, the Museum, the Happy Home Showcase, a photo booth, Kicks Shoe Store, the Gardening Store, Club LOL, the Shampoodle, the Fortune Shop, and the Dream Suite.

5 The Valuable Ores & Gems

AC Ores

Ores and Gems were first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and can be found by breaking a fake rock with a Silver Shovel. They can be sold or used to make custom furniture in-game. If players collect enough ore and gems and give them to Cyrus along with a crystal, then he can create a piece of custom furniture that reflects the type of ore or gem that the player gave them. The types of ores that can be found in-game include Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Silver nugget, and Golden nugget. Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald all retail for 2,000 bells, whilst Silver nuggets retail for 3,000 and Golden nuggets retail for 4,000 bells.

4 The Greater Variety Of Fruits

All Fruit AC

Fruit trees have existed in every Animal Crossing game to date, but the most recent addition to the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, does not include all of the fruit options the previous games included. Animal Crossing: New Leaf included all of the following fruits; Apples, Oranges, Cherry, Pears, Peaches, Coconuts, Bananas, Durians, Lemons, Lychees, Grapes, Persimmons, and Mangoes.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, there was also the opportunity for players to grow and harvest "perfect fruit," which looks slightly different from the normal fruit and sells for a higher price.

3 Tortimer Island And His Mini-Games

Ac Tortimer Island

Tortimer Island is a secondary location that players can visit in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which can be reached by taking a ride in Kapp'n's boat. On this island, rare bugs and fish can be found limited to this island. Island Tours can also be completed on Tortimers Island to earn medals, and result in the player playing mini-games such as Balloon Hunting, Bug Catching, Diving Tours, Fossil Hunting, Hide and Seek, and Scavenger Hunts.

2 The Interesting Tools Like The Megaphone

Ac Megaphone

Tools such as Shovels, Axes, Fishing Rods, and Watering Cans can be found in all Animal Crossing games, but certain, less standard tools, have not been included in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Megaphone, for example, is a tool that previously existed in Animal Crossing: New Leaf that allowed players to locate their villagers in the town.

The Megaphone used voice recognition technology compatible with the Nintendo 3DS and allowed players to call out to certain villagers, locating them shortly after.

1 Most Of All, The Sassy Villagers

AC Villagers Sassy

New Animal Crossing players may be unaware of how brutal villagers used to be in the older games. Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are friendly, often cheery and always happy to see the player, regardless of the time of day and relationship level. In the older games, however, villagers had sass and attitude, which brought a sense of humour to the wholesome-looking game.

For example, villagers could be seen saying "I'm gonna have to come up with something nice to say to you that's believable" to players, whilst smiling and looking adorable. The villagers in the newest edition of the series, however, feel somewhat hollow and without personality, due to their constant state of amiableness.
