For nearly 40 years, Rogue has been a staple of the X-Men franchise. Rogue's inclusion as a member of the popular Marvel team was a hard transition for readers to accept but as time went on, Rogue's character started to grow on audiences, and in due time, she became one of the team's most popular members. Due to strong responses, Rogue went from being merely a supporting character to being brought to the forefront as a prominent member of the cast, and even a leader of the team. Today, her popularity has reached its zenith as she has recently become the star of her own X-series, titled Mr. and Mrs. X, which features her alongside her longtime beau and newfound husband, Gambit. Her and Gambit shocked readers around the world when the couple got married at the wedding that was originally supposed to be for Colossus and Shadowcat, and now with this new series, they have room to shock readers even more as the power couple of not only the X-Men, but all of Marvel.

Needless to say, Rogue has a long and well celebrated history among the X-books. She has had her ups, she has had her downs, she has been on the side of the heroes, and she has also been on the villainous opposing team. So much history, in fact, there is a lot about her that even her most die hard admirers may not even know about. Her are some examples of Rogue's greatest hits that some of our readers may not even know about.

30 DEBUTED AS A VILLAIN

Rogue has been so deeply connected to the X-Men as a faithful member for so long that many of us forget that she made her debut opposing the X-Men. After years of being raised by Mystique, she joined Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

For quite some time, Rogue fought alongside Mystique and other villains in notable squabbles against The Avengers and the X-Men. Her life would take a drastic turn during her first major mission, which saw her go toe to toe with Ms. Marvel herself, Carol Danvers.

29 ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE GRACE JONES

When X-Men co-creator Chris Claremont intended to introduce Rogue to the Marvel Universe, he had different look in mind for her rather than the petite girl with a white fringe who we recognize today. In contrast, he wanted Rogue to be a tall, black, hulking presence of a woman with a high top fade.

More specifically, he wanted Rogue to look like actress/model Grace Jones. Not a bad idea. The problem was that after he explained his vision to artist Michael Golden, he had no idea who Grace Jones was or looked like, so he just gave Rogue an entirely different design.

28 ORIGINAL DEBUT GOT CANCELLED

It is almost ironic that a major turning point in the life of Rogue came following an encounter with Ms. Marvel, because Rogue was originally slated to make her debut on the pages of issue #25 of Ms. Marvel. But after only half of the story's artwork featuring Rogue was completed, the series was abruptly cancelled.

Had the story seen the light of day when it was supposed to, it would have been released in 1979. Rogue did not officially make a comic book debut until 1981's Avengers Annual #10.

27  A DEEPER RELATION TO MYSTIQUE

In 2016, Chris Claremont revealed in an interview that he had originally plans to reveal that Mystique was always Rogue's biological mother, rather than her adoptive mother, along with her lover Destiny. Had he not left Marvel in 1991, he would have brought this storyline to light.

In addition to that, Claremont had plans to reveal that Mystique transformed into a man when she was with Destiny, although it seems as though the child they would have birthed would have been Nightcrawler, not Rogue.

26 WHO ALMOST PLAYED ROGUE

Natalie Portman in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Until the day comes where the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Fox finally decide to recast the character of Rogue for a new X-Men film, Anna Paquin will always be associated with the big screen version of the character. Long before she was cast for the first film, there was a long line of actresses rallying to play Rogue.

That list reportedly featured names like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Christina Ricci, Alicia Silverstone, Katie Holmes, and Katherine Isabelle. Natalie Portman was asked to play the character, but turned the opportunity down.

25 WAS ALMOST IN THE WOLVERINE

Ever since the very beginning of the original X-Men movie trilogy, Rogue was always depicted as having a deep connection with Wolverine, something of a pseudo-father-daughter relationship. There were plans for that relationship to evolve by having her make an appearance in The Wolverine.

The original draft of the script saw Rogue try to convince Wolverine to return to the X-Mansion from his solitude. When the director decided he wanted to focus more on Wolverine's solitude, her part got cut.

24 HOW GAMBIT MET ROGUE

Gambit marries Rogue in Marvel Comics

In 1990, just seven years after Rogue joined the X-Men, Gambit made his comic book debut. He met Storm, who at the time had lost her memory and the two embarked on running off together as thieves. Eventually, Storm got her memory back, and offered her new friend a position as a member of the X-Men.

He accepted, and upon his arrival to the X-Mansion, he met Rogue who he immediately tried to court. A couple decades later, Rogue and Gambit are married and have their own series, Mr and Mrs X.

23 WAS ONCE MARRIED TO HAVOK

Havok Joe Quesada

The 2013 "Age of Ultron" comic book event saw Rogue married to Havok and together they lead the Morlocks, a group of mutant outcasts forced to live in the sewers. One day, they are visited by Captain America who comes with intentions to arrest one of their members, Caliban, for a trial.

His demands are interrupted by The Apocalypse Twins, who crash down intending to eliminate Captain America, but instead they take Havok out. To avenge her slain husband, Rogue retaliates, but gets decimated herself.

22 HER RELATIONSHIP WITH COLOSSUS

At some point during the 100th issue of X-Men, Rogue accidentally touches Colossus and to both of their surprise, nothing happens. She doesn't absorb his powers, and he is not immediately stricken with an overbearing, draining pain. Naturally, to see if he actually was immune to her touch, they kissed.

Their relationship was poorly received, mostly because critics remembered that Rogue actually touched and absorbed Colossus's powers in the past. When writers got the memo, their relationship was dropped.

21 HER THING WITH DEADPOOL

As members of The Avengers's Unity Squad, Deadpool and Rogue teamed up to find the missing fragments of Professor X's brain (long story). Somewhere along the way on the mission, Rogue beat the snot out of Deadpool while she was mind controlled (again, long story), and later when she was back to normal, she apologized to Deadpool by kissing him.

Recently, on Mr and Mrs X during her honeymoon with Gambit, Rogue happens to run into Deadpool, and it seems to create something of a love triangle.

20 HER ROLE IN THE DEADPOOL VIDEO GAME

In 2013, our favorite Merc with a Mouth got his own video game and at one point in the story, Deadpool runs into Rogue. Well, more like she falls into his lap, literally. He catches her in his arms after she falls down from the ceiling unconscious. To heal her, Deadpool kisses her, and passes out himself.

After draining his life force, Rogue takes on the powers, weapons, personality, and mask of Deadpool. The player briefly gets to play Rogue and fight enemies while protecting Deadpool's unconscious body.

19 ANNA PAQUIN WANTS TO PLAY ROGUE AGAIN

XMenTheLastStand-03-Rogue

X-Men: Days of Future Past served as both a sequel in the new X-Men franchise, and a last hurrah for characters/actors from the original trilogy, including Anna Paquin's Rogue. Although, Paquin did express on Twitter in 2015 that she did still have a desire to reprise her role again, but on one condition: that she gets to fly.

Paquin further explained that when the first X-Men movie came out, Rogue was flying in the comics, but the movie version never got to fly once in the trilogy -- she wants to rectify that.

18 AN AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

The House of M limited series depicts Rogue as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Red Guard division. Top of her class, Rogue is noted as one of the best, most elite members of her unit's division. Other members of this division include Nightcrawler, Mystique, Wolverine, Toad, and Jessica Drew.

She plays an important role in the resistance to Magneto, especially when she absorbs the powers of Genis-Vell, which turns half of Rogue's body into a portal that leads to a black cosmic void.

17 CONTROL OVER HER POWERS

Rogue in New Exiles

Rogue has always been written as a character who has no control over her dangerous powers, but that all changed in X-Men Legacy #225. Thanks to assistance from Professor X and Danger, the sentient humanoid version of the Danger Room, Rogue discovered a way to reach the full potential of her abilities.

Now, she can touch anybody she wants without harming them, and consciously decide whether or not she wants to drain them of their powers and life force.

16 HAS TWO HALF-BROTHERS

Most readers know about the relationship between Rogue and Nightcrawler and how they are close enough to consider each other brother and sister, due to sharing a mother in Mystique -- biological for Nightcrawler and adopted for Rogue.

Few readers know that by that logic, Rogue actually has two brothers, the other being Graydon Creed. Creed is the human anti-mutant politician who is the birth child of Mystique and Sabretooth. Due to sharing the same mother, him and Nightcrawler are officially half-brothers.

15 FEUDED WITH GAMBIT'S EX-WIFE

When Gambit and Rogue first met, they immediately took a liking to each other, but that did not sit well with Gambit's ex-wife, Bella Donna. While targeting Rogue, she accidentally touched Rogue, and lost her memory of Gambit.

When she regained her memory, she targeted Rogue again for vengeance, going as far as to slay Rogue's childhood sweetheart, Cody, in an act of revenge. Rogue and Belladonna have clashed on and off for years, and now that Rogue's married to Gambit, we bet Bella Donna will pop up again soon.

14 A POWER UPGRADE GOT RETCONNED

Genis Vell

A huge turning point for Rogue during the House of M series came when she absorbed the cosmic powers of Genis-Vell. This was supposed to be a long term power upgrade for Rogue that was meant to have permanent consequences.

However, when the Marvel event was over, the writers of the X-Men books had no interest in Rogue having this power upgrade, or following up on this plot point at all. Therefore, the plot point got retconned completely after House of M was over.

13 WAS ALMOST WITH LOKI

Old-Loki-Agent-of-Asgard

A lot of readers may remember when a powerless Rogue found herself stranded with Magneto on Savage Island. It was there where they fell in love, but it was almost Loki in the Magneto role. As Jim Lee once explained, Chris Claremont wanted it to be Loki seemingly since he never wrote a Loki story, but it never seemed right to Lee.

Mostly because Loki was never an X-Men villain. The two decided to compromise and instead penciled in for Magneto to sweep Rogue off her feet.

12 LEADS A DIVISION OF THE AVENGERS

Many years after opposing The Avengers as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Rogue wound up joining them. After helping The Avengers on a mission against the Red Skull and his S-Men, Rogue joined The Avengers's Unity Division.

Following a few missions, Rogue briefly left the team only to later return in a bigger role. At the recommendation of Steve Rogers in the wake of his retirement, Rogue later became the field leader of the Avengers Unity Division.

11 THE OBJECT OF SHADOW KING'S AFFECTIONS

For whatever reason, the evil Shadow King has always been deeply enamored and obsessed with trying to court Rogue. During the "Muir Island Saga" storyline, the Shadow King tries his best to seduce Rogue, and the villain even manages to kiss Rogue after mind controlling her.

Speaking of mind control, the Shadow King makes Rogue into his Shadow Queen when he controls her in X-Treme X-Men Annual 2001, but thankfully, shortly after, she is able to break free from his mind control.
