Resident Evil is one of the premiere horror series when it comes to videogames and it has enjoyed years of success at the hands of Capcom as well as a few years of failure. However, beginning with Resident Evil 7 the franchise has begun to enjoy going back to its original days of glory and scares.

The newest game in the series is actually an older one. Resident Evil 3: Remake is the third in the line of fully HD remakes of classic Resident Evil games and this one will be featuring the iconic character Nemesis. This list will be detailing some things that you should know about this iconic horror character.

10 HE IS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC RESIDENT EVIL CHARACTERS

Nemesis made his first appearance in the classic Resident Evil 3 game and this appearance skyrocketed him to videogame stardom. After this 1999 debut, he quickly became one of the most well-known characters from the Resident Evil series as he was firmly planted in the nightmares of fans everywhere.

Many lists of videogame antagonists from reputable sources have this hulking beast placed high up and always speak of him highly. He is the perfect horror machine.

9 HE APPEARS IN THE MARVEL VS CAPCOM SERIES

Many that aren't well-versed in the lore of the Resident Evil series may recognize Nemesis from another Capcom videogame franchise. This franchise is, of course, their very popular fighting game series, Marvel vs Capcom. Nemesis namely appears in the games Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 as well as the poorly received Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite.

While Nemesis is a very popular character in this series due to his videogame icon status he is a low tier character in Marvel vs Capcom 3. The system in Infinite allowed him to be much better.

8 HIS NAME COMES FROM MYTHOLOGY

Nemesis wasn't named that for no reason. This monster is a creature that has the goal of getting revenge for Umbrella and thus was named with a true purpose in mind. This led this new bio-weapon to be named after a Greek Goddess that mirrored his purpose.

This Greek Goddess is of course Nemesis, the Greek Goddess of Vengence. This goddess is said to enact retribution on those that show arrogance before the Gods, much like Nemesis does for his creators at Umbrella.

7 HE'S A LOT WORSE THAN MR. X

For those that are still scarred by the exploits of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2: Remake, believe that the stress levels will go even higher when encountering Nemesis in Resident Evil 3: Remake. While Mr. X may have been a hulking creature made of nightmares, Nemesis takes a bigger step from him in many ways.

Nemesis is not only much faster than Mr. X but smarter, has more abilities, long-range attacks, and is more intelligent. He also has a voice that will be sure to make hearts instantly drop.

6 HE HAS REGENERATIVE ABILITIES

The parasite placed inside of Nemesis gives him a large number of abilities that are put together to make him the ultimate killing machine. One of these many abilities is that of regeneration. These massive regenerative abilities make Nemesis just about invincible which will be reflected in the gameplay of Resident Evil 3: Remake as they were in the original Resident Evil 3.

While these regeneration powers will make Nemesis a tank of an enemy, just like in the original Resident Evil 3 he will be able to be defeated with enough firepower.

5 IT'S A PROTOTYPE

Nemesis is a prototype bio-weapon created by the Umbrella Corporation. Resident Evil 3 showcases the first field test of this new monster where his mission is to hunt down and eliminate STARS police members before they are able to expose Umbrella's hidden plans and location.

The team behind Resident Evil 3 put a lot of thought into this prototype aspect and decided to show it off in his design. This is why there is so much exposed muscle on the creature along with the stitching and melty face.

4 HE ONLY KNOWS ONE WORD

One of Nemesis's most popular features is his knowledge of one special word. Due to the intelligence of this creature, it is actually able to speak, albeit with a very (huge emphasis on very) limited vocabulary.

Its unstoppable mental focus of hunting and killing STARS members have led it to constantly utter a very famous line during its hunt. That line is of course, "STARS....."

3 HE'S HIGHLY INTELLIGENT

While the Nemesis prototype may seem to be a dumb hulking creature, it is actually one of the most intelligent of any of Umbrella's creations. In fact, one of the main focuses behind the creation of Nemesis was to be an intelligent Tyrant to use as an alternative to standard military forces.

This is why this Tyrant has such superior intelligence when compared to that of past Tyrants such as the rather dumb Mr.X. It's also why Nemesis can use weapons and track the player anywhere that they go.

2 HE'S NOT ACTUALLY THE BIG GUY YOU SEE

Although Nemesis is seen as a giant creature that chases the player around throughout the game its not actually simply the big creature that you see. Nemesis is actually a very small parasite called NE-α Type or Nemesis Alpha. It was created to increase the intelligence of the Tyrant series being created by Umbrella.

Basically this parasite is placed into a larger and stronger Tyrant such as Mr. X which puts it in control of the larger body. This creates a monster as fearsome as Mr. X but with more intelligence.

1 NO, HE CAN'T BREAK INTO SAFE ROOMS

One rumor that has been surrounding Resident Evil 3: Remake is the belief that Nemesis will be able to now break into safe rooms. This is a change-up from past Resident Evil titles as the safe room is supposed to be a safe room.

Thankfully this rumor has long since been debunked so fans and newcomers are able to rest easy while they save, sort out items, and take a break from all the zombie fighting.
