Police are on the hunt for three men who forced their way into a toy store in Hamilton, Ontario, last month and hit the bricks with more than $20,000 worth of LEGO.

It's thought the robbery may have been motivated by the skyrocketing demand for LEGO, which has triggered a holiday shortage in Europe and effectively created a black market for the toys.

According to the Hamilton Police Service, officers were called Oct. 25 to investigate an overnight break-in at a Toys R Us store, where they discovered three men had entered through a door, and "focused their efforts on stealing a large quantity of LEGO brand products from the shelves inside."

"The LEGO was in the form of various themes and kits still sealed and in the original retail packaging," the police department states.

The theft follows the disruption of an organized crime ring in July in San Diego, where five people allegedly struck area Toys R Us stores at least 30 times, stealing more than $100,000 in LEGO, Disney's Frozen items and other merchandise.
