It was announced that Boyega would star as Fontaine in They Cloned Tyrone in 2020. The film will mark Taylor's directorial debut and, per the film's synopsis, the story will follow "a series of eerie events that thrusts an unlikely trio (Boyega, Foxx, Parris) onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this pulpy mystery caper." In a 2020 interview, Boyega compared the film to his 2011 sci-fi action film Attack the Block.

They Cloned Tyrone Comes to Netflix

"I see it like me stateside version of Attack the Block, I’ll give you that," Boyega said at the time. "I’ve been connecting with the director, Juel Taylor, who I think is just the truth. He has a bright future in Hollywood. It’s his first feature, but there’s a reason why it attracted the likes of Jamie Foxx to his project. The script is phenomenal." They Cloned Tyrone is produced by Foxx with Datari Turner and Charles King's Macro production company.

Apart from his role in Attack the Block, Boyega is known for portraying Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which consisted of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, The Last Jedi in 2017 and The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. As for Foxx and Parris, both actors are familiar with the Marvel universe, with Foxx recently reprising his role as Max Dillon/Electro in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, a role he originally played in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield. Parris, on the other hand, debuted as Monica Rambeau in the Disney+ series, WandaVision, and will star alongside Brie Larson's Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the upcoming sequel, The Marvels. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the sequel is set to release in theaters on July 28, 2023.

"With Monica, we see her at the end of WandaVision gain powers," Parris said in a recent interview about her character's new powers. "And so, in The Marvels, we pick up learning how Monica's been learning about her powers, working with them or if she has [used them] at all, like what she's not been doing. So that's where we pick up with Monica in The Marvels."

They Cloned Tyrone does not yet have a release date.
