In this feature, I examine comic book fights that were particularly notable in the wrong side winning (or at least that the fight wasn't won the "right" way). This really isn't a big deal, of course, as it doesn't really matter if the "wrong" person won a fight. But it's fun to talk about!

If you want to suggest a fight for future inclusion in this feature, drop me a line at bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Don't suggest a fight in the comments!

For the second fight, I thought I'd go with what was by far the most requested suggestions, Lobo's battle with Wolverine in DC vs. Marvel #3.

As always (by "always," I, of course, mean since I started doing this bit last week), the first page will be me setting general power levels and then the second page will be the fight.

Wolverine is an awesome fighter with an amazing healing factor. However, his power levels when it comes to fighting tend to come a BIT closer to the human level. For instance, in Wolverine #1 (the mini-series by Chris Claremont, Frank Miller and Joe Rubinstein), Wolverine faced off against his girlfriend's father, Lord Shingen, who was an old dude. Now DO NOTE that Wolverine had just been poisoned and he was still rusty from the poisoning. However, I don't think that necessarily excuses the fact that he got his ass kicked by an old man using a wooden sword (as what's the best case scenario? "If Wolverine was totally healthy, he possibly could have pulled out a victory over the old man with the wooden sword!")...

Lobo, meanwhile, went toe to toe with Superman, as seen in Adventures of Superman #464 (by Dan Jurgens and Art Thibert)...

Superman ends up faking his own death to get Lobo off of his back.

So that, of course, leads us to 1996's DC vs. Marvel #3...

A couple things to note, naturally. The first is the most important. This was a fan vote. Wolverine is MUCH more popular than Lobo. Secondly, writer Ron Marz had very little space to depict the fight because the whole issue was packed to the brim with fights, so it had to be a short three-page fight. So with all of that in mind, I give you Lobo versus Wolverine from DC vs. Marvel #3, by Ron Marz, Dan Jurgens and Joe Rubinstein (it is kind of weird that Jurgens and Rubinstein have both been involved in this column already)...

Clearly, even Marz knew he couldn't really argue that this was decided correctly, so he just had it happen off panel. It's honestly not a bad idea, to be frank. People were going to be mad either way, this way at least you can leave it people's imaginations. I bet that there are some fans out there that can make a realistic case for Wolverine winning!
