Though they didn't spend that much time with each other there, they became very close friends after they came back to life, along with Rhyme and Neku. The two of them were always able to rely on each other and would remain friends for years and were happy to see each other towards the end of NEO: The World Ends With You.

9 Neku And Hanekoma Helped Each Other Out A Lot To Save Shibuya

Hanekoma was the Producer of Shibuya, as well as an anonymous artist that went by the name "CAT." Not wanting Joshua to win his game, he decided to help Neku out as much as he could. Neku had always been a fan of "CAT" and was shocked to find out that he was Hanekoma. This resulted in the two of them getting closer and Neku began to understand the messages that Hanekoma wanted to spread as "CAT" more. The two helped each other out a lot throughout the weeks Neku spent in the Underground.

8 Neku And Joshua Had Become Good Friends And Always Trusted Each Other

While he wasn't initially aware of it, the reason why Neku ended up in the Underground in the first place was because Joshua had killed him. During his second week there, Neku became partners with Joshua. They didn't get along at first, especially since Neku had suspicions that Joshua played a role in his death.

However, Neku would become friends with Joshua, and even after learning the truth, still saw him as a friend. Understanding this, Joshua decided to not destroy Shibuya, and the two always respected each other.

7 Fret And Kanon Were Always Friendly And Saw The Best In Each Other

Though Fret and Kanon were on different teams that competed against each other, the two became good friends. Kanon was the leader of the Variabeauties, and Fret was a founding member of the Wicked Twisters. Fret didn't always act like his true self, not wanting people to get to know the real him, which Kanon quickly realized. She helped him become a better person throughout their weeks in the Underground. After she got possessed by the Plague Noise, he did everything that he could to save her and was devastated when she died.

6 Joshua And Kitaniji Played A Game To Determine The Fate Of Shibuya

As Shibuya's Composer and Conductor, Joshua and Kitaniji were very close. Feeling that the citizens of Shibuya were a problem, Joshua intended to shut it down. Despite Kitaniji worshipping Joshua, he didn't want Shibuya to be destroyed and convinced him to give it a second chance by playing the Reapers' Game. The two acted as opponents in their game, but despite wanting completely different things, still respected each other. Joshua ended up winning the game but decided to not destroy Shibuya. In the end, Kitaniji was able to save what he loved most.

5 Neku And Beat Got Off On The Wrong Foot But Always Had Each Other's Back

Though they didn't get along at first, Neku and Beat became close friends throughout their weeks in the Underground. At one point, Beat became a reaper but decided to join forces with Neku afterwards, allowing them to win the game and leave the Underground.

They would remain friends once they came back to life. After Neku disappeared, Beat did everything he could to find him, joining the Wicked Twisters in the process. Neku would join them as well when he returned, and he was happy to reunite with Beat as they saved Shibuya a second time.

4 Ayano And Shoka Were Like Sisters

After Shoka became a reaper, Ayano took her under her wing, and the two got very close to each other, considering themselves to be sisters. However, Shoka would eventually leave the reapers and become a player for the Wicked Twisters. Ayano tried to bring Shoka back but got infected by the Plague Noise. Shoka had to fight Ayano with her new friends despite not wanting to. They ended up winning the fight, and Ayano got erased right in front of her, and Shoka was devastated.

3 Rindo And Shoka Were Online Friends Who Eventually Became Closer When They Met In The Underground

Shoka also became very close friends with Rindo. Before they even met in person, they played FanGO together for years. When Rindo went to the Underground, he knew that he shouldn't have been able to communicate with anyone in the Realground, and believed that Shoka was a player on an enemy team when he found out that he could still send and receive messages with her.

Shoka always knew who Rindo was, but Rindo wouldn't learn that the reaper that joined his team had been friends with him for years until the end of NEO: The World Ends With You. The two of them became a lot closer during their time as comrades and were still very close when they returned to the Realground.

2 Rindo And Fret Were Friends Before They Went To The Underground And Had Been Through A Lot Together

Rindo and Fret were friends for a long time. The two of them were hanging out together when they were sent to the Underground and formed the Wicked Twisters together. Not knowing much about the Reapers' Game, it was a good thing that the two of them were able to rely on each other right away, and they did everything that they could in order to return to the Realground. Throughout their journey, they became much closer friends and always stuck by each other's side, saving Shibuya together, along with those that joined them on the way.

Shiki and Neku were each other's first partner when they started playing the Reapers' Game. At first, Neku didn't want anything to do with her and even considered killing her when Uzuki told him that it would allow him to return to the Realground. However, throughout the week that they were partners, they ended up becoming a great team, really caring about each other. When they came back to life, they remained friends, and Shiki became very concerned for Neku when he disappeared, wanting him to return. They were happy to reunite at the end of NEO: The World Ends With You.
