Throughout Season 1 of Netflix's The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia remained a man of few words, often responding to certain residents of the Continent or events with simple grunts, all seemingly masking thoughtful and silent deliberation on the complexities of the world. That will change with Season 2 of the hit-fantasy series.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich revealed that star Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt, pushed for the witcher to have more dialogue so the character would appear more like his novel counterpart. "A lot of the notes he was sending to me were about Geralt's dialogue — could he, first of all, say more," Hissrich explained. She then reflected on how Season 1 portrayed the witcher. "Everybody came out of season one laughing and loving Geralt's fuming. But Henry was saying that when you read the books you spend a lot of time in Geralt's head. So how can we put that on the page?"

For Hissrich, Cavill's notes were evidently simple for her to implement, owing to her own goals for Season 2 of The Witcher. The showrunner explained, "Meanwhile, I wanted to tell the story of him becoming a father figure to Ciri. So those two things coalesced wonderfully. He opens up to get Ciri to trust him, by speaking his mind and his heart more."

The Witcher Season 2 is set to adapt the events and characters of Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves, for the most part, along with parts of Time of Contempt, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. The series will see Geralt take Ciri to the mountain fortress of Kaer Morhen for training under the guidance of his fellow witchers-- Lambert, Eskel, Coën and Vesemir. The Netflix series will also introduce Hemrik, another witcher.

On top of the second season, the showrunner also announced that Season 3 is in the works, as are several spinoff projects, such as a second anime project and a family-friendly show. Details are scarce for all, but Hissrich did teases that the writer's room is developing Season 3 and described it as "a really fun season and it follows a particular book really closely. It has a lot of action, some death."

The Witcher Season 2 will be released on Dec. 17. The entirety of Season 1 and the anime tie-in film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, are available for streaming on Netflix.
