Although the filming continues for Season 2 of The Witcher, Netflix has recently begun to treat the show's fanbase to a number of images and descriptions about the upcoming series. That now includes the official Season 2 synopsis.

The synopsis reveals Geralt's belief that Yennefer had perished in the Battle of Sodden, a battle from which the mage disappeared shortly after securing victory against the forces of Nilfgaard. It then reveals that the witcher and his ward, Ciri, will appear at Kaer Morhen, the headquarters of the School of the Wolf and Geralt's childhood home. Meanwhile, it appears that the war and conflict that plagues the Continent is far from over, despite the victory at Sodden.

Convinced Yennefer's life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

Recent reports and images suggest that the upcoming season will adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves. It should be noted that showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has previously revealed that stories from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny may be adapted as well. However, reports from the set of The Witcher Season 2 indicate that the Netflix series will introduce a number of unique characters to these stories.

Blood of Elves sees Geralt of Rivia and Ciri spend a winter at the mountain fortress of Kaer Morhen, training the Cintran princess to fight monsters of all sorts with the help of witchers Lambert, Eskel, Coën and their mentor, Vesemir. Just as the Netflix series has teased, Sapkowski's novel also features Ciri's struggle to comprehend and wield the power granted to her by the Elder Blood, a force she inherited from her ancestor: the elven sorceress, Lara Dorren.

Season 1 of the Netflix series followed Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer across three separate timelines spanning over a hundred years that gradually coalesced. Yennefer transformed from a hunchbacked peasant into a powerful mage, Ciri lost her family and home and discovered the mysterious power she inherited, while Geralt attempted to escape his destiny-- one that bound him to both Yennefer and his Child of Surprise, Ciri.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
