Netflix greenlit Season 2 of the hit-fantasy series before the release of the critically-acclaimed first season of The Witcher. Filming for the upcoming season began in February 2020 but was forced to come to a halt in mid-March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It was speculated that Season 2 was originally planned to complete filming in August 2020 for release in December. However, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich had previously stated that the release date of the second season had not been announced specifically to accommodate potential delays.

Several spinoff projects have been announced, including the anime tie-in film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which will center on Vesemir-- the oldest witcher from the School of the Wolf residing at Kaer Morhen. There were rumors that the anime was intended for release before Season 2. Netflix has not confirmed these rumors. No release date for the tie-in has yet been announced.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
