Netflix's The Witcher will return soon with Season 2, which will pick up where the climactic Season 1 finale left off -- with Geralt and Ciri united and Yennefer vanishing from the battlefield. The upcoming series looks to be packed with monster-hunting action, judging by a recently released still.

Released through Entertainment Weekly, the still shows Geralt of Rivia wielding a sword, fighting against an unseen opponent, likely a monster, as his eyes appear to be showing the effects of one of his witcher potions.

The falling snow and castle-like backdrop suggests that the action may be taking place either in Kaer Morhen or at an estate owned by the cursed creature known as Nivellen, signalling that this battle may occur during the show's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves or the short story "A Grain of Truth," from Sword of Destiny.

Season 2's first official trailer, released at WitcherCon, gave viewers a glimpse at the bruxa that Geralt will encounter in what has been confirmed as the season's first episode. The scene evidently took place in a snowy setting at night. However, other stills from Season 2 show Ciri training at the witchers' mountain fortress of Kaer Morhen, also blanketed in snow.

Netflix also released stills featuring Yennefer of Vengerberg and Geralt, teasing their respective journeys. Yennefer is shown in chains, captured by the Nilfgaardian army, though photos taken from the set of The Witcher Season 2 reveal that she will inevitably escape and meet Ciri, as she did in the novels.

The show looks to be adapting Sapkowski's Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt, as well as certain short stories from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. In Blood of Elves, Geralt and Ciri travel to Kaer Morhen for the winter, in order to hide away from powers across the Continent seeking to use the Cintran princess in their political manoeuvres. At Kaer Morhen, Geralt and his fellow witchers train the Ciri in combat. It's worth noting that reports from the set suggest that the show will introduce major changes to certain characters and storylines.

Netflix released an anime tie-in to prepare viewers for the series' introduction to Kaer Morhen. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf followed Vesemir in his youth, as well as a major turning point in the history of the fortress and the School of the Wolf, which viewers will see are both in ruins.

Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher is set to premiere on Dec. 17.
