With The Witcher Season 2 is still more than two months away, franchise fans are beginning to grow anxious for more clips, trailers and content. Star Henry Cavill recently treated the fanbase to a new character poster for Geralt of Rivia, one that teases the monster slayer's unavoidable destiny.

The poster was released on Henry Cavill's social media and later on Netflix's various Witcher-focused social media channels. It depicts Geralt in his new armor, standing before the dusty ruins of what appears to be Kaer Morhen. The text reads, "Destined to protect," teasing Geralt's upcoming journey with his newfound ward, Ciri.

Netflix has slowly teased Geralt of Rivia's journey with Ciri, as well as his battles with monsters and other opponents from across the Continent. Many of the images that have been released have centered on Geralt and Ciri's stay at Kaer Morhen, the mountain fortress that houses the remnants of the School of the Wolf-- Lambert, Eskel, Coën, their mentor Vesemir, and a new witcher created specifically for the show, Hemrik.

Other photos and clips tease Season 2's first episode, which adapts "A Grain of Truth" from Andrzej Sapkowski's novel, The Last Wish. In it, Geralt encounters an estate, deep in the valleys of the Northern Kingdoms, where a cursed beast named Nivellen lived with a bruxa named Vereena. Netflix released two short clips at the TUDUM event, both seemingly from the first episode of The Witcher Season 2. One debuted actor Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen and the other hinted at how Ciri would be incorporated into the series' adaptation.

At the virtual event, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich also announced the development of several new projects expanding the world of The Witcher, such as a family-friendly show set in the Continent, a new anime project and, of course, Season 3 of the main series. This is on top of the prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, currently in production. Earlier this year, Netflix also released an anime tie-in to the main series, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The anime film explored Vesemir and Kaer Morhen's past, explaining the state audiences will find the fortress in when Season 2 arrives.

Aside from The Witcher star Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Season 2 will see the return of Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The second season will also introduce several other witchers, including Lambert, Eskel, Coen and Vesemir, played by Paul Bullion, Basil Eidenbenz, Yasen Atour and Kim Bodnia, respectively. Season 2 is set to be released on Dec. 17.
