The long-awaited second season of Netflix's The Witcher, which has been hindered by a number of major issues, has officially wrapped filming, according to crew members who posted on social media.

Hair and make up artist Jacqueline Rathore posted on Instagram, revealing that boards had been cleared and that filming is complete. She did note that while the cast and crew were technically finished, production is officially set to complete on April 1.

The-Witcher-2-Wrap

Before the immense success of Season 1, Netflix had ordered a second series, which began production at Arborfield Studio in February 2020 with an initial wrap date scheduled for August. However, filming was forced to shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in mid-March, following reports that actor Kristofer Hivju had contracted the virus.

After several months, The Witcher was allowed to resume production with the implementation of health and safety protocols. Due to these measures, the total production scheduled was extended from six months to eight months. Following this, production came to a halt for a second time after four members of production tested positive for the virus. The shutdown lasted for two weeks before continuing.

The final and most recent delay came in January 2021 when star Henry Cavill suffered an injury to his hamstring on set and was forced to step back from the project. This reportedly pushed the completion date back a month where production had been scheduled to wrap in February.

Season 2 of The Witcher is set to adapt the events of Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt, along with at least one major story from Sword of Destiny. Photos from the set have revealed that several characters from those novels will appear in the upcoming season, including the Scoia'tael elves, Wild Hunt riders and Geralt of Rivia's fellow witchers-- Lambert, Eskel, Coën and their mentor, Vesemir.
