The Witcher Season 2 received a surprise new trailer, showcasing the upcoming season's biggest monsters and the battles yet to come.

The 2-minute clip features a proper look at Vereena, the bruxa as well as a glimpse of her paramour, Nivellen. The trailer also confirms that the Leshen -- the woodland spirit that has appeared in CD Projekt Red's video games and Netflix's anime tie-in -- will appear in The Witcher Season 2. The trailer also shows how Geralt will need to use all his monster hunting knowledge and his skills with signs to fight these beasts.

Fans of the novels would have anticipated Geralt's confrontation with the bruxa when it was confirmed Andrzej Sapkowski's "A Grain of Truth" from The Last Wish would be adapted in the show. Netflix teased the bruxa with an incredibly brief glimpse at the creature in her bat-like form in the first trailer. The latest trailer is the first time audiences will have seen the live-action bruxa using her powerful scream and her monstrous form.

The majority of Season 2 will adapt the events and characters of Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt, which follow Ciri in her training as a witcher and then as a sorceress. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has previously explained that the show will add to the story with, among other things, more monsters. In a recent interview, she stated, "Blood of Elves lacks monsters. There's just not very many. But we know from the games that people really like to see Geralt battling monsters, so we continued adding more monsters to Season 2."

Additionally, it was reported that Netflix's The Witcher will have to make several major changes, purely due to the inherent differences between books and television as storytelling mediums. One of the novels' major revelations, which takes place late in the saga, will be brought forward in the Netflix show, likely because keeping it a secret would have been near impossible.
