Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher continues to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's novels and appear to have reached plot points featured in Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt, as evidenced by recent photos from the set, some of which reveal the elven sorceress Francesca Findabair.

The photos -- released by Redanian Intelligence -- showcase Francesca, played by Mecia Simson, strolling along a lake, accompanied by Fringilla Vigo, played by Mimi Mdiweni. Francesca's hand is placed atop her pregnant belly, revealing a major deviation from Sapkowski's novels.

In the world of Sapkowski's novels, elves generally face difficulties conceiving children, making Francesca's pregnancy a significant departure from the character's novel counterpart. Moreover, it appears that the casting call for the role of Findabair featured a description that read, "A mother who would do anything for her child."

Introduced in Blood of Elves, Findabair is an elven sorceress, a founding member of the Lodge of Sorceresses and known by many across the Continent as the most beautiful woman in the world. Her appearance in the Netflix series alongside a Nilfgaardian sorceress is in line with the novels, as Findabair often dealt with Niflgaardian forces in order to secure freedom and sovereignty for the elves of Dol Blathanna-- which appeared in Season 1 under the rule of Filavandrel.

Season 1 of The Witcher featured a number of mages and sorceresses, many of which were trained at Aretuza. These magic-wielders defended the Northern Kingdoms against a Nilfgaardian invasion at the Battle of Sodden in the season finale. Though the mages of Aretuza fell, Yennefer of Vengerberg, encouraged by Tissaia de Vries, was able to turn the tide by focusing her chaos on the invading army though she vanished shortly after. It is currently unknown where she disappeared to, but recently released stills from Season 2 indicate Yennefer may have been captured.

The official synopsis for Season 2 reveals that Geralt and Ciri will head to the witcher fortress of Kaer Morhen, while the kingdoms and warring factions of the Continent descend further into chaos.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
