It was previously revealed that Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher might feature Queen Meve of Rivia and Lyria. That has now been confirmed with a new casting report.

According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher has cast Scottish actor Rebecca Hanssen to play Meve. While it is unknown how prominently she will feature in the upcoming season, it is believed that she will appear in episodes directed by Sarah O’Gorman and Ed Bazalgette, who will direct at least four episodes. It is worth noting that the 26-year-old Hanssen is significantly younger than Meve as the character appears in Andrzej Sapkowski's novels.

Meve first appeared in Blood of Elves, in which she secretly meets with her fellow rulers from across the Northern Kingdoms at Hagge castle to discuss the war with Nilfgaard and the future of the missing Cintran princess, Ciri-- though at the time, the whereabouts or wellbeing of the princess were uncertain. The queen is the sole ruler of Lyria and Rivia after the passing of King Reginald of Rivia. She has two full-grown sons, both deemed unfit to rule due to their recklessness and naivety.

CD Projekt Red's Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales starred Queen Meve and followed her story from the meeting at Hagge through her battle against the invading Nilgaardian army. The game adapts certain events from the novels, such as Meve's meeting with Geralt of Rivia and the queen's journey to construct an army from conflicting races and peoples, including bandits, elves, dwarves, gnomes and more.

Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher is currently filming across the United Kingdom. Production originally began in February but was forced to come to a halt in mid-March due to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. After a hiatus lasting several months, filming resumed in August following the implementation of strict health and safety protocols such as personal protective equipment, regular sanitization of the set and more.

Details concerning the plot of Season 2 are currently uncertain. While it is believed that the season will predominately adapt the events of Blood of Elves, photos from the set have revealed that the show may feature significant changes to certain events and characters, such as the characterization of the sorceress, Francesca Findabair.

The first season was released in December 2019 and, despite mixed reception from critics, was widely popular among regular audiences. The Witcher went on to become one of Netflix's most successful series. Several spinoff projects are currently in development, such as The Witcher: Blood Origin and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in development.
