Netflix's The Witcher promises more large-scale action in Season 2, if photos from the set are any indication. Recent photos hint at more battle scenes between the forces of the Northern Realms and the Empire of Nilfgaard, whose soldiers are now equipped with completely redesigned armor.

Photos have surfaced showcasing Nilfgaardian foot soldiers in armor with a gold-tint, bearing the yellow sun insignia on their breast plates. The design is similar to that of the armor worn by Cahir in a set photo that leaked in October. However, this new image provides viewers with a somewhat better look at the new design, and moreover, reveals the design of the helmet that all Nilfgaardian infantry are presumably equipped with. Actor Eamon Farren was seen with a helmet, but it was obscured in the leaked image. Though it was clear that that his helmet will now bear large, featered wings, similar to the design described in Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels. The appearance of the helmet is notable in the books for its prominence in Ciri's nightmares of Cahir.

Season 1 featured designs for the Nilfgaardian armor by Tim Aslam, who explained in the past that the idea for the armor's appearance was intended to convey the state of Nilfgaard before its rise as a power. Photos of the armor leaked online before the series premiere and became the subject of criticism from the Witcher fanbase. It was announced that Lucinda Wright would be taking over as costume designer for Season 2, though no official reason was provided for the change.

The last season of Netflix's The Witcher explored the Nilfgaardian Empire's conquest into the Northern Kingdoms, beginning with Cintra, which resulted in the death of Queen Calanthe and sent Ciri into a search for Geralt of Rivia. The war against Nilfgaard also forced the mages and sorceresses of Aretuza into the fray, decimating forces on both sides.
