Not too long ago, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich herself and Netflix released a wave of exciting new photos for their upcoming television adaptation of The Witcher. The photos featured all three of the series' main characters including Yennefer of Vengerberg, Ciri and of course, the witcher himself, Geralt of Rivia.

Now a new photo of Geralt has emerged. From the looks of it, it's from the shoot that took place on the Canary Islands. We see Henry Cavill in full costume, but with one interesting detail that seems to be absent from the rest of the marketing material: the other side of the steel sword is now visible, revealing a hilt seemingly adorned with jewels.

Geralt-of-Rivia-The-Witcher-Sword

So far, the reception among certain online communities has been mixed. Some praise the design of the sword while others complain that it intrudes on the overall look of the main character. Keep in mind that this is the steel sword; the sword that Geralt is likely to wield for the majority of the series as -- according to the novels on which the series is based -- the witcher only ever uses the silver sword for certain supernatural creatures.

The upcoming dark fantasy series is based on the novel series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The tale follows the witcher known as Geralt of Rivia -- a member of a mutated, mystically trained order of professional monster hunters -- as he travels the Continent and finds himself caught in conflicts that could reshape the world around him.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The series will be available to stream on Netflix this December.
