One of the complaints that enthusiastic fans of The Witcher novels had about the Netflix adaptation was about the fact that the series seemed to reduce the Nilfgaardians to crazed villains. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has assured fans that that will not be the case in Season 2.During a quarantine watch party, Hissrich tweeted that the Nilfgaardian knight, Cahir, and the sorceress Fringilla, will both be explored in the upcoming season. The showrunner explained that audiences will see "who they are, why Nilfgaard is important to them, and where they'll go from here," adding, "It's one of my favorite parts of the new season."RELATED: Game of Thrones, Witcher Star Updates COVID-19 Status

There were may fans who felt both Nilfgaardians served relatively simple roles in Season 1, and while the characters expressed deep commitment to Nilfgaard and its conquest of the Continent, their reasons were never fully explored. Fringilla Vigo in particular, the sorceress who began her training alongside Yennefer, seemed to shift her allegiance suddenly.

Production on Season 2 has currently stalled, due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has resulted in the shutdown of a number of major projects across film and television. There has been no official word on when production will begin again and no updates concerning whether or not this delay will affect the release date.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
