Netflix announced The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf more than a year ago. Since then, few details have been released. Thanks to Netflix's own page for the anime tie-in film, audiences now know that it will be a feature-length project. Thanks to user Twitter Bernardo Martinho, who managed to screenshot the minor detail on the film's Netflix page, it has seemingly been revealed that Nightmare of the Wolf will be one hour and 21 minutes long, making it a feature-length project, as the widely-accepted threshold is 75 minutes.RELATED: Netflix Debuts Animated Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf Logo

Netflix previously confirmed through a synopsis, which has since been removed, that the upcoming anime will center on the witcher known as Vesemir and his origins as a boy lost to the Law of Surprise. The description read, "Long before mentoring Geralt, Vesemir begins his own journey as a witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise."

Vesemir was introduced in Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves, in which he appeared as mentor to the handful of witchers that remained at the mountain fortress of Kaer Morhen. The novels did not explore Vesemir's past beyond his fate in the aftermath of the seige of Kaer Morhen, an event that largely destroyed the School of the Wolf and knowledge of the Trial of the Grasses-- the process that helped to create witchers. CD Projekt Red's video game series similarly did not explore the character's past too deeply, making Netflix's Nightmare of the Wolf the first significant attempt at expanding on Vesemir's story.

It has been reported that the series will premiere before the release of The Witcher Season 2, which is set to properly introduce Netflix's live-action adaptation of Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia. Season 2 will adapt the events of Blood of Elves, in which Vesemir and the other witchers of the School of the Wolf help Geralt of Rivia train Ciri over the course of a winter.

Season 2 is currently filming in the United Kingdom, though production has been affected by a number of issues ranging from the coronavirus (COVID-19) to an on-set injury sustained by star Henry Cavill. Principal photography was scheduled to wrap in February, but that has now been pushed back to March.

Nightmare of the Wolf is being produced by Studio Mir, the South Korean animation studio behind shows such as Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
