Geralt of Rivia is no longer center stage – Netflix’s new animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf instead tosses a coin to his mentor and fellow witcher, Vesemir. However, Vesemir isn’t the only focus of the new film. Joining him is a cast of intriguing characters, each of whom will bring an exciting new dimension to The Witcher franchise.

The new teaser trailer for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf unveils some of these new figures and foretells the adventures to come. Set to hit Netflix on August 23, the prequel will give a fresh look into what it means to be a monster-hunting witcher. Here’s a look into the movie’s newly-released characters and the voice actors who will bring them to life.

Vesemir (Theo James)

As Geralt’s mentor and father figure, Vesemir has great significance in The Witcher series. Nightmare of the Wolf dives into the fighter’s backstory as a young, up-and-coming witcher who seems to see the job as more lucrative than heroic. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich even went so far as to call the spirited witcher a “rapscallion” next to the serious Geralt.

Taking on the role of Vesemir will be the strapping young Theo James. Those familiar with his voice can be led to Castlevania where he took on the role of forgemaster Hector, and is well-known for his work on the young adult Divergent series.

Tetra (Lara Pulver)

The Nightmare of the Wolf trailer also gave a glimpse of Vesemir’s compatriot Tetra Gilcrest. The powerful sorceress, with whom Vesemir appears to have a lively repartee, actually descends from one of the very first mages. According to The Witcher’s Twitter post about her, she “believes magic connects all things of beauty.” Also devoted to keeping the peace, Tetra’s goal is to prevent magic from being abused.

Tetra will be voiced by actress Lara Pulver, who is no stranger to the voice acting scene – she was also the voice of Mirana in Dota: Dragon’s Blood.

Deglan (Graham McTavish)

Vesemir may be Geralt’s vision of witcher leadership, but Deglan is the one Vesemir must look toward. Hardened by living in the harsh Skellige Isles, Deglan became the tough warrior-leader of the witchers. Always loyal and protective of his “boys,” he’ll undoubtedly have a significant role in Vesemir’s journey.

Scotsman Graham McTavish will voice Deglan, but this isn’t actually his first role in The Witcher franchise. He’s also going to be in the upcoming Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher as Dijkstra, the head of intelligence for the country of Redania.

Lady Zerbst (Mary McDonnell)

Witchers aren’t commonly regarded with respect, but Lady Zerbst is one of the few who avidly supports the monster-hunting masters. After her husband’s death, Lady Zerbst took his seat on the king’s advisory council and has since become a valuable advisor. It’ll be interesting to see how her path crosses with Vesemir in The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

The Kaedwen noblewoman will be portrayed by two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell. The highly experienced actress is known for her signature roles in the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica and cult classic film Donnie Darko.
