The excitement surrounding Netflix's The Witcher may not be as boisterous as it was just weeks ago, but it is still very much present. New and old fans of the franchise alike now eagerly await the second season of the live-action adaptation, to see what showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has in store for Geralt, Yen and Ciri.

Filming will reportedly begin very soon, which makes a recent post from Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, that much more intriguing. Allan posted an image of a prop training sword on Instagram, likely a hint that Season 2 will finally see Ciri training at Kaer Morhen, where Geralt was headed at the end of Season 1.

The Witcher adapts the characters and events of Andrzej Sapkowski's novel saga of the same name. More specifically, Season 2 will continue to adapt Blood of Elves, in which Ciri briefly trains with Geralt and the handful of witchers that remain of the School of the Wolf. It is her time at Kaer Morhen that helps to prepare her for the brutality of the Continent when the princess finds herself alone later on.

Before the release of Season 2 some time in 2021, audiences can look forward to the anime tie-in film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which will center on Vesemir, the oldest and wisest witcher at Kaer Morhen. The upcoming film may serve as an introduction of sorts to this school, and in so doing, provide insight into the kind of world that Ciri is about to enter.

Season 1 of The Witcher is now available on Netflix and stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 2 is currently in development. It is expected to premiere in 2021.
