Netflix's The Witcher has been enjoying unprecedented success among general audiences, despite more than a few negative reviews from professional critics. Audiences are clearly enjoying the series and many are looking forward to the second season, which was ordered by Netflix before Season 1 had even been released.

Fans have a long wait ahead of them, since Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia will presumably only grace screens again some time in 2021. That doesn't necessarily mean that fans won't still be able to enjoy Netflix's adaptation of The Continent. In a recent interview, executive producer Tomasz Bagiński (translated by Redanian Intelligence) teased, "We are planning a few more interesting surprises between seasons but I will not say exactly what will happen." It's as vague as a tease can get, but fans may still have an inkling of what to expect.

Prior to the series' premiere, it was rumored that Netflix was developing an animated Witcher series to accompany the live-action adaptation. According to the NSFW blog, Recapped -- which has a stellar record when it comes to Witcher-related news -- the plan for the animated series was to release it between the first and second season. It was also rumored to center on supporting characters rather than any of the major protagonists. An animated series seems likely, but it's worth reiterating that this is all pure conjecture at this point.

As for the next season of The Witcher, the scripts for Season 2 have already been completed and the series will soon enter production.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available for streaming on Netflix.
