Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, and that is in no small part due to the success of CD Projekt Red's universally praised video game trilogy, which seemingly concluded with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015.The series recently hit yet another landmark, five years after the last instalment was released. It was announced on social media that the video games had sold a whopping 50 million copies. The official page posted, "Over 50 million adventurers joined Geralt on his journey," before possibly hinting at yet another game in the future with, "Thank you and may we meet on the path again!"RELATED: The Witcher 4: CD Projekt Red Writer Teases Ciri's Role in Game

Developer CD Projekt Red's first video game adaptation of The Witcher was released in 2007 and received generally positive reviews, resulting in two sequels, the most successful of which was The Witcher 3. The third entry alone has sold more than 28 million copies worldwide. Total sales for the series was likely boosted by The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch, which was released in October 2019, then again by the release of the hit live-action Netflix adaptation of Sapkowski's novel series.

The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster-hunter who constantly finds himself embroiled in political struggles, conflicts of greater and lesser evils and matters pertaining to his inescapable destiny, which includes Princess Ciri and the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.
