Netflix's prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is starting to make progress. Showrunner Declan de Barra recently announced the first gathering of the upcoming series writer's room, who connected via conference call to begin work.On social media, de Barra revealed that the show's writers consist of Kirsten Van Horn, who has worked on shows such as Snowpiercer; Alex Meenehan, who is also working on the upcoming Moon Knight series with fellow Witcher writer Beau DeMayo; Tania Lothia, whose credits include Swamp Thing and Carnival Row; Troy Dangerfield, who previously worked on ABC's Castle; Pooja Gupta, Tasha Huo and Aaron Stewart-Ahn, among others.RELATED: Netflix's Making the Witcher Trailer Showcases Cavill's Training, the Show's Practical Effects

The Witcher: Blood Origin will take place 1,200 years before the events of the main series and explore the Continent's tumultuous past following the cataclysmic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres. This event saw the worlds of elves, humans and monsters collide, populating the landscape with beings from completely different worlds, and introducing them all to magic. Netflix has ordered six episodes for the upcoming limited series.

While there has been no official word on casting, it was recently reported that Netflix was eyeing actor Jason Momoa for the starring role as the Continent's first witcher. No release date has yet been announced for the series.

Meanwhile, production on Season 2 of The Witcher continues. Recent reports reveal that director Stephen Surjik has completed filming for his two episodes. Additionally, Netflix previously announced the development of an anime film centered on the witcher known as Vesemir, reportedly set to be released before Season 2.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
