It wasn't too long ago that Netflix finally announced the full cast of characters for the upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. While the three central characters are still somewhat shrouded in mystery, audiences have been given a good look at at least one major character.A photo from the set of Blood Origin, currently filming in the UK, has made its way online. The image features Sir Lenny Henry in costume as the mysterious Chief Druid Balor-- one of many original characters the series is set to introduce to its universe. Henry appears clad in a blue robe, traveling a dusty road with crew members behind him.
It was previously reported that Netflix was searching for established actors to play Balor, including Pierce Brosnan, Djimon Hounsou, and Hiroyuki Sanada. All three passed. Chief Druid Balor is not a character that fans of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels or CD Projekt Red's video games. The character is one of many that will help Netflix flesh out the era of the Continent's history that has gone widely unexplored throughout the franchise. Not much is known about the character at this time, only that he will appear in every episode.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is a limited series comprised of six-episodes. It is set in the distant past of the Continent, some 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher, in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event known in the novels as the Conjunction of the Spheres. Playing the show's central characters are Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, Sophia Brown as Éile and Michelle Yeoh as ScÃan.
Despite the prominence of original characters, The Witcher: Blood Origin will feature names that may excite longtime fans of the franchise. The Wild Hunt king Eredin will appear in the show, played by Jacob Collins Levy. It is unknown what role the villain will play in the Continent's history. Appearing alongside him will be Aevenien, who may not immediately ring any bells. She was mentioned in Sapkowski's novels, only as the mother of the ancient prophetess known as Ithlinne. Aevenien will be played by British actor Claire Cooper.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is filming now and doesn't currently have a release date.
