It was previously reported that Jason Momoa was in talks to star in Netflix's upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.The actor is currently set to film Slumberland between February and June, while Blood Origin is scheduled to enter production in April, making it highly unlikely for the actor to be involved. Initially, it was though that Momoa would play the Continent's first witcher in the prequel series. It is now thought that he was being considered for Fjall, one of the show's central elven characters.
It was reported in September 2020 that Netflix was eyeing Momoa for a starring role in Blood Origin, though the role itself was never officially confirmed. Casting information that surfaced in recent weeks reveal that the series will revolve around at least two elves: Éile and Fjall, both of which were the subject of rumors in November, along with another named Princess Merwyn. Fjall was described as raw, gritty and visceral.
Éile has been cast, with actor Jodie Turner-Smith recently announced for the role. The character is described as a wandering musician who left her clan and her place as Queen's guardian to pursue her true passion. However, events transpire on the Continent that force her to take up her blade once again in what has been described as a quest for vengeance and redemption.
The Witcher: Blood Origin was announced in July as a prequel series set roughly 1,200 years prior to the events of The Witcher. It will center on the Continent around the time of the Conjunction of the Spheres, an event described in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series as a cataclysm involving a multiverse that brought different races and creatures from different worlds to the Continent, such as monsters and humans. The event also introduced the land to the chaotic force known as magic.
The six-episode live-action series is being helmed by The Witcher writer Declan de Barra. The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich also confirmed that Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, who wrote The Witcher novels, will be involved in the upcoming series. It should be noted that Sapkowski was attached to the ongoing Netflix show as a creative consultant.
Netflix is also developing another spinoff project: The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The anime tie-in film is also set some time before the events of The Witcher and will center on Vesemir during his younger years at Kaer Morhen, the mountain fortress that houses the School of the Wolf.
The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
