Following a slew of exciting new updates about The Witcher: Blood Origin, Netflix recently dropped several new stills showcasing the towns and landscapes of the ancient Continent and some of the show's battle-born and music-loving elves, one of which appears to be giving Jaskier a run for his money.

Released via Netflix's TUDUM, the images feature the show's central protagonists, Scian, played by Michelle Yeoh; Fjall "Stoneheart," played by Laurence O'Fuarain and Éile "The Lark" Lithe, played by Sophia Brown. Brown appears further stills, illustrating the musical talent of her character. Equipped with an instrument resembling the Swedish nyckelharpa, she can be seen passionately playing for a crowd.

One of the stills also showcases actor Minnie Driver in costume as the show's narrator, the shapeshifting storyteller Seanchai. Her addition to the cast was announced at Netflix's TUDUM event, though rumors surrounding her character have been circulating since early on in the show's production, with reports suggesting she will be part of a framing story involving Jaskier, the fan-favorite bard from The Witcher.

Despite initial announcements describing the show as a six-part miniseries, recent reports suggest The Witcher: Blood Origin will in fact be composed of just four episodes. Netflix has not provided any reason for the change. As reported by Redanian Intelligence, the writing credits for the episodes include showrunner Declan de Barra, who is attached to the first and fourth episode; Alex Meenehan and Aaron Stewart-Ahn for the second episode and, finally, Tania Lotia and Kiersten Van Horne attached to the third.

What is Blood Origin About?

Drawing inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, The Witcher: Blood Origin is set 1,200 years before the journeys of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer began and shortly after the cataclysmic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres, which allowed humans, monsters and magic to pour in from other dimensions on to the Continent. The limited series series follows elven characters Éile, Fjall and Scian and will see the events that led to the birth of the world's first witcher.

The events of The Witcher's Season 2 finale, which had a teaser trailer for Blood Origin attached, were strongly hinted to lead into the upcoming prequel. Voleth Meir, for example, was revealed to be a member of the Wild Hunt, led by Eredin Bréacc Glas. The latter is reportedly set to appear in Blood Origin, though it is unknown how large of a role he will play.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Dec. 25.
