The elves that populate the worlds of Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher enjoy long lifespans and an inherent talent for magic. Characters such as the Aen Aelle elf and commander of the Wild Hunt, Eredin Bréacc Glas, have had profound effects on the development of the Continent.

Netflix's The Witcher: Blood Origin appears to be exploring just that in some capacity, according to a recent report from Redanian Intelligence revealing that Eredin will appear in the upcoming prequel miniseries. Worth noting is that the King of the Wild Hunt will be played by Australian actor Jacob Collins-Levy, known for shows such as Netflix's Young Wallander.

Previous reports revealed that Eredin will also appear in Season 2 of The Witcher, played by Sam Hazeldine. The upcoming season of the hit-fantasy show mainly adapts the events of Sapkowski's novels Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt. The latter does feature the Wild Hunt and its leader, albeit briefly, suggesting a similarly short appearance for Hazeldine's Eredin. The reasons behind the decision to cast two actors for the same character across the two shows are currently unknown.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set 1,200 years prior to the events of the current Netflix series, in the aftermath of the cataclysmic event known, in the novels, as the Conjunction of the Spheres. The event briefly merged entirely different worlds together, flooding the Continent with humans, monsters, magic and the like.

Declan de Barra, who served as a writer on The Witcher, is heading the six-part miniseries, with actor Laurence O'Fuarain starring as one of the two lead characters, Fjall. Actor Jodie Turner-Smith was previously set to play Éile, the other lead character, but was forced to depart the project due to scheduling conflicts that arose due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. A new actor has not yet been announced for Éile.

Further details for The Witcher: Blood Origin have not yet been revealed. Filming will reportedly begin later this year between July and August. The series is one of at least two spinoff projects for The Witcher. The other is an anime feature film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, centered on the oldest living witcher at Kaer Morhen, Vesemir, and his previously unexplored past.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
