Details concerning the plot of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf have been scarce up until now, but co-executive producer Lauren Hissrich and writer Beau DeMayo recently shared a little more of what audiences can expect to see of Vesemir's story.

The Witcher was one of the larger topics brought up at a Studio Focus as part of the Annecy Film Festival. The anime tie-in was described as a look at Vesemir's past as a headstrong young witcher who enjoyed the profession. When a power threatens the Continent, he will be forced to reevaluate the profession and why he does it.

Speaking at the panel, Hissrich explained that there are qualities of Geralt of Rivia that she was curious about-- their roots and the people and events that shaped them. That led her to Vesemir, Geralt's mentor and questions about the events and profession that shaped him as a mentor and father-figure. "Families are multi-generational. The things I teach my children, I learned from the generation ahead of me. When we meet Geralt in 'The Witcher' he is a full adult, he's 100 years old and he’s been living on his own for a very long time. But you can’t help wondering how he learned the things he practices regularly and is going to teach Ciri."

Though none of the producers provided specifics on Vesemir or his mentor Deglan in Nightmare of the Wolf, DeMayo teased, "It's gonna give fans that are familiar with the series a totally unique experience that I hope makes them feel like they're coming to 'The Witcher' for the first time again."

Netflix has made few official announcements regarding The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, though it did release the anime film's logo over the Christmas season, and the feature-length film's description was briefly released on the film's page.

Vesemir is set to appear in Season 2 of the live-action series, with actor Kim Bodia playing the role. The series is set to adapt the events of Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves, which introduced Vesemir alongside Geralt's fellow witchers Lambert, Eskel and Coën, all of which helped to train Ciri over the course of a winter.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix. No release date for Season 2 has yet been announced.
